The Deals Writer researches and writes articles about current deals, ensuring accuracy and adherence to editorial standards while collaborating with teams across time zones.
The Opportunity:
CNET Group — home to CNET, PCMag, ZDNET, Mashable and Lifehacker — seeks an experienced Deals Writer to join our editorial commerce team. The successful candidate is passionate about helping everyday people find legitimate, outstanding deals on quality products. This role will research, vet, and write articles showcasing live deals.
The successful candidate exercises keen attention to detail, is adept at following editorial standards, and is an excellent writer and verbal communicator who engages readers and teammates alike.
This person works quickly and accurately in a fast-paced environment, and thinks on their feet. An excellent writer, they also embrace teamwork to collaborate effectively with others across time zones, including US-based teammates.
This role requires original, human-generated work at all times, in adherence with our editorial policy. The Deals Writer works closely with the Director of Commerce, and with colleagues across the Commerce team.
Candidates will demonstrate their skill in a writing test.
Key Responsibilities:
- Research, vet, and write deals content, verifying accuracy and editorial best practices, including documentation
- Adhere to a workflow for identifying new and updated deals content
- Collaborate closely with Edit colleagues across teams and time zones
- Effectively identify and escalate potential issues, make suggestions, and quickly adopt learnings
Job Qualifications:
- 2+ years of writing experience or commensurate, preferably in service journalism
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Able to follow editorial policies and best practices
- Comfortable getting into the weeds on topics you are not an expert in, to ensure submitted writing is accurate and authoritative
- Willingness to occasionally work outside of standard hours to support business needs during major events
