Stateroom Steward (Japanese Speaking)

Key Responsibilities

• Consistently deliver exceptional stateroom service, ensuring the highest standards of cleanliness, maintenance, sanitation, and presentation in line with Rooms Division brand standards, HESS protocols, and KPI targets.
• Take ownership of the guest experience within the assigned section, promptly addressing any shortfalls in product or service delivery and providing timely, personalized resolutions to guest requests, concerns, and feedback.
• Prepare, service, and refresh guest staterooms according to daily schedules and turnaround requirements, including embarkation, debarkation, and turndown service, ensuring all amenities and consumables are replenished as per standards.
• Proactively identify and report maintenance issues, safety concerns, and repair needs in guest staterooms and corridors, following up to ensure timely resolution and minimal impact on the guest experience.
• Use consumable items, stateroom supplies, linen, and cleaning chemicals responsibly, following company guidelines to support cost control, environmental standards, and safe working practices.
• Engage warmly with guests, anticipating needs and offering assistance in both English and Japanese, providing accurate information about ship products, services, MedallionClass offerings, itinerary, and port information.
• Actively promote and upsell onboard services, including specialty dining, beverage packages, spa services, and shore excursions, in a way that enhances the overall guest experience.
• Support the development, implementation, and execution of Rooms Division initiatives, sharing best practices and feedback with the leadership team to continuously improve service and operational efficiency.
• Embrace and role-model the Rooms Division Shared Purpose, Core Values, CRUISE Service Essentials, and Service Excellence standards, contributing to a positive, inclusive, and safety-focused team culture.
• Maintain full compliance with company brand standards and all Health, Environmental, Safety, and Security (HESS) requirements, including public health regulations and Operation Oceans Alive initiatives.
• Participate in mandatory and structured training programs, drills, and development activities to enhance skills, support career progression, and ensure readiness for future opportunities within Princess Cruises.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

• Minimum 3 years of experience in housekeeping, stateroom service, or a comparable guest accommodation role in a hotel, resort, or cruise environment; previous cruise ship experience is strongly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of housekeeping standards, public health, hygiene, and environmental regulations related to stateroom service, including safe use of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
• Proven ability to maintain high standards of cleanliness, presentation, and maintenance in guest rooms and corridors while working efficiently under time pressure.
• Excellent guest service skills, with a genuine passion for surprising and delighting guests and creating memorable experiences throughout their cruise.
• Warm, friendly, and caring personality with the ability to build rapport and maintain professional, courteous relationships with guests and teammates from diverse cultural backgrounds.
• Strong communication skills with good command of English, both written and verbal, and the confidence to interact with guests and teammates clearly and professionally.
• Japanese language proficiency ranging from Basic (JLPT N5) to Fluent (JLPT N1); able to understand and hold conversations with Japanese guests and support their needs.
• High level of personal organization, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize tasks to meet daily schedules, turnaround times, and quality standards.
• Resilience and physical stamina to perform a role that involves standing, walking, bending, and lifting for extended periods in line with operational requirements.
• Commitment to Health, Environmental, Safety, and Security (HESS) standards and Operation Oceans Alive, with a proactive approach to identifying and reporting safety or maintenance issues.
• Motivated, reliable, and self-disciplined, with a strong work ethic and willingness to participate in mandatory and structured training programs to support continuous learning and career development.
