Shipboard Graphic Designer and Translator (Japanese Speaking)

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the end-to-end production of Japanese-language printed and digital collateral on board, ensuring all materials meet or exceed brand, quality, and accuracy standards.
• Follow the Print Shop workflow and daily routines to prioritize and complete jobs on time, aligning output with itinerary, voyage requirements, and deadlines set by onboard management.
• Translate, adapt, and lay out English-language materials into Japanese, ensuring clarity, cultural relevance, and consistency of tone and style across all guest- and crew-facing pieces.
• Coordinate the proofreading process for all translated collateral, allocating sufficient time for review, incorporating feedback, and ensuring error-free final versions.
• Provide ongoing design and translation support to onboard departments, responding to requests, advising on best practices, and ensuring materials align with brand guidelines.
• Maintain and update templates and files for translated collateral, preparing print-ready artwork and documentation for shoreside management review and approval.
• Work closely with the Printer to schedule and produce Japanese-language materials in tandem with their English counterparts, ensuring alignment on quantities, formats, and delivery timelines.
• Plan and prepare translated collateral for seasonal campaigns, special events, and itinerary-specific activities, ensuring materials are ready ahead of time.
• Ensure all interactions with guests and crew reflect Princess Cruises’ customer service standards, Core Values, and REAL program, providing timely updates and solutions when issues arise.
• Monitor job progress, troubleshoot production and translation issues as they occur, and proactively communicate status updates and any risks to relevant onboard stakeholders.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

• Proven experience as a Translator, Interpreter, or similar role, ideally within a hospitality, travel, or customer-facing environment.
• Fluency in English and Japanese, with strong written and verbal communication skills in both languages.
• Excellent proofreading skills with a keen eye for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and layout accuracy in both English and Japanese.
• Proficiency with graphic design and content editing tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite or similar), with the ability to prepare print-ready files.
• Strong time-management and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
• High attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining brand consistency across all translated and designed materials.

• Strong foundation in customer service with the ability and willingness to deliver outstanding service to passengers and crew.
• Organised, detail-oriented, and dedicated to producing accurate, high-quality work; motivated to excel in all aspects of the role.
