Job Title: Senior Software Engineer - Data Modernization

Business & Team:
The CBA technology unit delivers the best digital banking services to Commonwealth Bank customers and to do so is responsible for digital delivery, group data and analytics, technology and technology infrastructure, cyber, fraud, physical security and business resilience for all divisions across CBA. It is also dedicated to delivering the best workplace technology experience for our over 53.000 people across CBA and focused on providing the latest tools, technology, and resources to enhance the way we work together and empower our people to achieve more for our customers. BB Technology Digital partners with our BB Digital Domain to drive the transformation of Digital Experiences. Together we hold end-to-end accountability for the CommBiz Digital channel and the Business Banking experience in the CommBank App and Netbank. Our goal is to transform our channels to be market leading, driving customer advocacy to achieve +30 NPS and increase commercial outcomes -supporting revenue uplift across all product lines and driving cost efficiencies in the delivery of Business Banking products.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Develop and maintain automated test suites for data pipelines using Python, PyTest, or other relevant frameworks.

Validate data transformations and integrity in AWS Glue ETL jobs.
-
Automate testing for Parquet file processing, data ingestion, and transformations.
-
Design and implement data validation and reconciliation tests for AWS DMS migrations.
-
Conduct performance, scalability, and reliability testing for AWS Redshift and other data stores.

Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines.
-
Monitor and troubleshoot data pipeline failures and quality issues, implementing proactive quality checks.

Ensure compliance with data governance, security, and regulatory standards.
Essential Skills:
We don’t expect you to know them all but experience or exposure with some of these (or equivalents) will set you up for success in this team.

5+ years of experience in Test Automation for data platforms.

Strong expertise in Python, PyTest, or other automation frameworks.

Hands-on experience testing AWS Glue ETL, Redshift, AWS DMS, and Parquet files.

Experience working with SQL and data validation frameworks for structured and semi-structured data.
-
Proficiency in AWS services such as S3, Lambda, Step Functions, and CloudWatch for monitoring and automation.

Experience integrating automated tests in CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, AWS Code Pipeline, etc.).

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on data quality.

Familiarity with data governance, lineage, and compliance best practices.

Experience with DBT tests or other data testing frameworks

Knowledge of Spark, Athena, or other big data processing technologies

Experience in event-driven architectures and real-time data testing
Education Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering in Computer Science/Information Technology.
