We are seeking a strategic and visionary Regional Product Development Director – Asia to lead the growth of product development partnerships for vaccines, diagnostics, medical devises and health technologies in the Asia region for PATH. This role will contribute to driving the global PD strategy bringing in regional perspectives, ensuring strong matrixed structures are in place, and ensuring alignment with global objectives while responding to local market needs.

 

The Regional Product Development Director - Asia reports directly to the Chief Scientific Officer and Head of Product Development (PD). They will be a member of the product development leadership team and will work closely with PATH country offices in Asia. They will work closely with the 3 global program leaders in the Centre for Vaccine Innovation and Access (CVIA), Diagnostics, and Medical Devices Health Technologies (MDHT)) and support our AI for PD strategy and work across the product development lifecycle.

 

Responsibilities:

 

Strategy Leadership:

  • Responsible for creating and developing a three-year, sustainable regional PD strategy that will involve evaluating the regional funding potential academic and private sector partnerships, required investment needs, and the internal capabilities needed to pursue new opportunities.

  • Contribute to global PD strategy and bring regional perspectives.

  • Work with Global program leaders in evaluate staff required to support emerging regional needs.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather local market intelligence and set strategies for cultivating relationships with key players.

  • Offer leadership support to key projects in the region.

 

Relationship Management & Regional Exposure:  

  • Increase PATH’s brand and presence in the region with potential partners and policy makers with the goal of obtaining favorable positioning for funding or co-funding opportunities.
  • Establish relationship network across PD to understand when and how to utilize skilled talent to further the PD strategy.
  • Work closely with regional and country programs to ensure strong matrixed approach to ways of working.
  • Travel to priority areas periodically for key positioning opportunities (events, meetings, learning trip follow up) representing PD interests and capabilities to increase visibility.
  • Support PD leadership engagements with key stakeholders and in high-level initiatives/dialogues led by government and regional partners.
  • Lead regional PD business development process connecting with global PD and business development teams. 

 

Required skills and experience:

  • Proven experience (10+ years) in product development leadership, preferably in a global and/or regional context, industry experience is highly desirable.

  • Degree in product development, engineering, science, public health, medicine, business or related field, or equivalent experience.

  • Must be located in Asia, preferably Delhi, India, and must have legal authorization to work in the PATH country office location.  This is not an Expat position and relocation and Visa assistance will not be considered.

  • Proficient in conducting market research to identify unmet needs, opportunities for innovation and then translating that into business development to influence stakeholders and advocate for sustainable solutions across diverse cultural populations.

  • Proven ability to build relationships with global health organizations, government ministries, local stakeholders and other experts from various disciplines.

  • Strong leadership skills, embodying a human-centered approach, coupled with exceptional emotional intelligence and people management abilities that fostered a collaborative and supportive work environment.

  • Proven success with resource mobilization and fundraising efforts.

  • Demonstrated understanding of product development and regulatory ecosystem in Asia.

  • Extensive experience in the design and execution of development strategies and programs with an established track record of partnership development and fundraising. 

  • Demonstrated ability to integrate data into strategy development, decision-making, and proposal development. 

  • Experience working in or with pharma/biotech and global public health.

  • Excellent partnership and strategic relationship management skills, including experience in establishing and managing relationships with public and private sector. 

  • Strong ability to build consensus among diverse multi-stakeholder groups and the ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.

  • Familiarity with global regulatory requirements and quality management systems.

  • Understanding the application of artificial intelligence within public health and/or product development.

  • Familiarity with intellectual property management.

  • Exceptional communication skills with ability to communicate complex ideas diplomatically and clearly with well-developed structure and logic. 

  • Self-starter with proven experience in launching new projects or initiatives and strong analytical skills. 

  • Experience working remotely in a matrix team.

  • Fluency in English.

  • Ability to travel as required.
