Key Responsibilities Core Responsibilities
- Microbiological Control Management: Assess, design, and manage comprehensive microbiocide treatment programs for paper mills to prevent slime, odors, and spots/holes in paper.
- Troubleshooting & Root Cause Analysis: Independently analyze complex operational issues related to microbiological contamination (e.g., anaerobic activity, foul odors) and perform root cause analysis.
- On-Site Application Testing & Data Analysis: Conduct on-site audits, water analysis, microscopy analysis, and ATP/ORP monitoring.
- Strategic Product Selection: Recommend and implement optimized biocide strategies (organic/oxidizing biocides, preservatives) to improve machine cleanliness and paper quality.
- Technical Consulting & Sales Support: Provide high-level technical consultation to clients, working in partnership with sales teams to build customer value.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all biocide applications adhere to environmental safety regulations (e.g., FDA, BfR for food-grade paper).
- Mentorship and Reporting: Train junior specialists, prepare detailed technical reports, and lead technical presentations for customers.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biology, Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, or Pulp & Paper Science (Master’s/PhD preferred).
- Experience: Generally, requires 10+ years of experience in the pulp and paper industry, with deep knowledge of process chemistry.
- Technical Expertise: Expert-level understanding of microbiological contamination in papermaking.
- Problem-Solving: Proven capability to handle diverse and unusual technical problems.
- Communication: Strong ability to communicate technical findings to non-expert audiences.
- Travel: Willingness to travel (50% or more) to customer paper machine sites.
