Ice Carver

Key Responsibilities

• Create high‑quality ice sculptures that reflect Princess Cruises’ brand standards and enhance the overall guest experience, from concept through to final presentation.
• Collaborate closely with Executive Chefs, Event Planners, and other onboard teams to interpret briefs and design sculptures that align with specific themes, venues, and guest events.
• Plan carving projects in advance, including sketching designs, estimating time and materials, and sequencing work to meet event timelines.
• Carve, shape, and finish ice blocks using chainsaws, chisels, and other specialized tools to produce detailed, visually striking, and structurally sound pieces.
• Transport, position, and install ice sculptures safely in guest and crew areas, ensuring stability, proper lighting, and minimal impact on surrounding operations.
• Monitor temperature, storage conditions, and display environments to preserve ice quality and extend sculpture longevity.
• Maintain, clean, and safely store all carving tools and equipment, reporting any defects and coordinating repairs as needed.
• Follow all onboard safety, hygiene, and Public Health standards when handling ice, tools, and work areas, including appropriate use of PPE.
• Support culinary and events teams with additional decorative or artistic tasks as required, particularly during peak periods and special occasions.
• Stay current with industry trends, techniques, and carving styles to continually refresh and elevate the onboard ice carving offering.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

• At least two years of experience as an ice carver, kitchen artist, sculptor, or in a closely related artistic or culinary role; cruise ship or hospitality experience is strongly preferred.
• Proven portfolio of ice carving or sculpting work demonstrating strong artistic ability, creativity, and attention to detail.
• Proficiency in using ice carving tools and equipment, including chainsaws, chisels, grinders, and other specialized tools, with a strong focus on safe operation.
• Solid understanding of ice properties, temperature control, and structural stability to ensure safe, long‑lasting sculptures.
• Ability to work comfortably in cold environments for extended periods while maintaining high performance and precision.
• Strong physical stamina with the ability to lift, move, and position heavy ice blocks and equipment safely.
• Excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to plan, prioritize, and meet tight event deadlines.
• Effective communication skills in English, both verbal and written, with the ability to collaborate across culinary, events, and hotel operations teams.
• Good understanding of onboard safety, hygiene, and Public Health expectations, with a commitment to maintaining clean, compliant work areas.
• Flexible, proactive, and solutions‑oriented mindset, able to adapt designs and plans based on guest needs, operational changes, and environmental conditions.
