Leads the bank’s microfinance vertical, owning strategy, growth, profitability, compliance, and P&L. The role oversees business development, BC partnerships, loan portfolio expansion, credit and operational processes, digitization, regulatory compliance, risk controls, audit closure, and a large zonal, regional, and field team. Requires extensive BFSI experience and significant leadership experience in microfinance.
The Head – MFI will be responsible for leading the microfinance vertical of the bank, driving growth, profitability, and compliance across geographies. The role demands strategic oversight, operational excellence, and strong leadership to scale up the bank’s presence in financial inclusion through microfinance products.
ResponsibilitiesStrategic Leadership
- Develop and execute the overall strategy for the microfinance business in alignment with the bank’s inclusive banking goals.
- Identify new markets, business models, and product innovations to deepen financial inclusion.
Business Development & Growth
- Identifying new entities, conducting due diligence and empanelling the same as BC of Bank.
- Relationship management with all empanelled entities, finalizing their business plan and achieving monthly business target.
- Introduce new products / policies / technologies etc. as per requirement of Bank’s business expansion and maintaining good portfolio quality.
- Drive aggressive growth in loan book, customer base, and geographical footprint.
- Establish strategic partnerships with NGOs, SHGs, BCs, and fintech players for deeper reach.
P&L Ownership
- Own the P&L of the MFI vertical, ensuring sustainable growth and profitability.
- Monitor key business KPIs and take corrective actions to meet business goals.
Operations & Process Management
- Oversee end-to-end credit and operational processes, ensuring scalability and efficiency.
- Drive digitization and technology adoption for seamless service delivery and monitoring.
Risk & Compliance
- Ensure full regulatory compliance (RBI guidelines, KYC, Fair Practice Code, etc.).
- Collaborate with risk and compliance teams to monitor portfolio quality and control delinquencies.
- Review and closure of all findings highlighted by Auditors, Monitoring team or any other agency engaged by Bank
Team Leadership
- Lead and mentor a large team of zonal, regional, and field staff.
- Foster a performance-driven, customer-centric, and ethical culture.
Qualifications: Graduate/Postgraduate in Management, Finance, or related field.
Experience: 15+ years in BFSI, with at least 7-10 years in leadership roles in Microfinance.
