About Prodigal

Prodigal is the connected AI platform leading financial institutions use to run their operations.

We work with banks, lenders, credit unions, and other financial companies that lend money to people and manage those relationships over time.

These institutions make millions of high-stakes decisions every day. Who should they reach? When should they reach them? What should they say or offer? When should a case move to a human? How should that change based on the borrower, the account, previous interactions, and the regulations involved?

Getting those decisions right requires a deep understanding of the people, processes, rules, and edge cases behind them.

Prodigal has spent the last eight years building that understanding. More than a billion interactions between financial institutions and their customers have shaped the intelligence, guardrails, and AI agents we now run in production across North America.

Today, our AI agents analyze conversations, capture context, guide human agents, decide the next action, conduct customer conversations, orchestrate outreach, and help people complete payments and resolutions. They are connected, so what is learned in one interaction can inform what happens next.

We are expanding this swarm of AI agents across more of the work financial institutions do: originations, document processing, back-office workflows, servicing, and other critical operations where money, identity, people, and regulation intersect.

We are backed by Y Combinator, Accel, and Menlo Ventures, and work with 100+ financial institutions across North America. Listen directly from our CTO, Cofounder - Sangram Raje

About the Role

We're looking for a Business Development Representative to help open the right doors for Prodigal.

Your job is simple to describe and difficult to do well:

Find the right companies and people, understand why Prodigal could matter to them, start a relevant conversation, and earn the meeting.

Once that meeting is qualified, you'll partner with an Account Executive who takes the opportunity forward.

This isn't a role where success comes from sending the highest number of templated emails.

Our customers can be lenders, card issuers, auto-finance companies, collection agencies, debt buyers, servicers, BPOs, credit unions, and healthcare organizations. Their business models, economics, regulations, workflows, and priorities can be materially different.

To be great here, you'll need to learn those differences.

You might spend one morning understanding why early-stage auto collections behaves differently from post-charge-off recovery, then work out why a servicing executive at a lender should care about something completely different from an operations leader at a collection agency.

Then you need to reduce all of that thinking into an email someone can understand in 20 seconds, or a cold call that earns you another 30.

That's the job.

What You'll Do
  • Own outbound prospecting into strategic US accounts. Identify the right companies, stakeholders, and moments to engage across phone, email, LinkedIn, events, and other channels.
  • Learn how our prospects actually operate. Understand their business model, workflows, priorities, KPIs, regulatory environment, and where AI could realistically create value.
  • Develop a hypothesis before you pitch. Instead of starting with what Prodigal does, work out why this particular person at this particular company may have a problem worth discussing.
  • Create highly relevant outreach. Translate complex research into simple, sharp messages that make senior prospects want to respond.
  • Cold call. Become comfortable speaking with senior operators and executives, navigating rejection, thinking on your feet, and earning the next conversation.
  • Book qualified meetings and make strong handoffs. Give the AE the context behind the meeting. What matters to the prospect? Why did they engage? What did we learn?
  • Partner closely with AEs and Marketing. Prioritize accounts, develop angles, plan event outreach, experiment with campaigns, and learn which signals actually create pipeline.
  • Use AI aggressively, but thoughtfully. Use AI to research faster, synthesize information, generate ideas, prepare calls, and remove repetitive work. You'll still be responsible for deciding what's true, what's relevant, and what's worth sending.
  • Keep the details right. Maintain clean account data, follow-ups, sequences, CRM records, notes, and handoffs.
  • Turn the market into feedback. Share objections, patterns, competitive signals, buyer language, and messaging insights with the wider GTM team so our positioning keeps getting better.
  • Represent Prodigal in person. Over time, you'll have opportunities to meet prospects at conferences and industry events. We want someone who is comfortable walking into a room, starting conversations, and building genuine rapport.
What You'll Bring

We care less about finding someone who already knows every sales technique and more about finding someone with the underlying characteristics to become exceptional at this job.

Discipline

You can do the work consistently. Prospecting has repetitive parts. Following up matters. Preparation matters. CRM hygiene matters. Good weeks don't make you complacent, and bad weeks don't destroy your routine.

Commercial curiosity

You genuinely want to understand how businesses work. When you encounter an unfamiliar company or business model, your instinct is to investigate rather than immediately reach for a template.

You ask good questions, connect information quickly, and can form a point of view from incomplete information.

Drive to get better

You want progress, responsibility, and mastery, not just the next incentive payout. You review what worked, want feedback, experiment, and deliberately improve your craft.

Strong judgment

AI can give you ten answers in ten seconds. You can decide which one is actually good. You know the difference between something that is technically personalized and something another human being would genuinely find relevant. You verify facts, question assumptions, and care about the quality of what leaves your name.

Clear communication

You can take something complicated and make it simple. Strong writing matters. So does speaking naturally without hiding behind jargon or memorized scripts.

Social intelligence

You pay attention to the person on the other side. You can read a conversation, listen, adjust your approach, understand incentives, and recognize when to push, when to ask, and when to back off.

Resilience

Selling involves rejection. A prospect hanging up, ignoring your email, or telling you no doesn't ruin your day. You recover quickly, learn what you can, and move on to the next conversation.

Attention to detail

Names, numbers, titles, claims, dates, account history, and follow-ups matter. You don't need to be perfect, but you should care when something is wrong.

Independent thinking + coachability

You should have opinions. We want you to challenge messaging, suggest experiments, question assumptions, and tell us when you think something won't work.
We also want you to change your mind quickly when someone has better evidence.

Experience
  • 1-3 years of experience in B2B sales, business development, SDR/BDR work, or another highly customer-facing role is preferred.
  • Prior experience selling to US customers is useful but not mandatory.
  • Experience in SaaS, fintech, financial services, or AI is a plus.
  • Strong written and spoken English is important.
  • You should be comfortable working with modern sales tools and learning new AI tools quickly.

Exceptional early-career candidates with strong evidence of discipline, communication, curiosity, and drive should still apply.

Why This RoleLearn a difficult industry deeply

You'll learn how some of the largest lenders and financial institutions in North America actually operate through live accounts and conversations.

Learn how enterprise AI is actually sold

Selling AI in 2026 is increasingly less about showing someone a clever demo and more about understanding their operation well enough to identify where AI can safely produce an outcome.

You'll work alongside AEs, product teams, AI deployment teams, engineers, and industry experts, and see that process up close.

Build judgment, not just sales activity

We want AI doing more of the repetitive work over time.

That should give you more time for the parts of selling that humans are uniquely good at: understanding context, forming opinions, communicating ideas, building relationships, and creating trust.

Help build the playbook

We're not a giant SDR organization where your job is to inherit a script and follow it.

You'll have room to experiment with accounts, messaging, channels, tools, and campaigns, and the things that work can become part of how Prodigal goes to market.

Real ownership early

The meetings you create can turn into meaningful enterprise relationships.

Your research can change how an AE approaches an account. An objection you hear repeatedly can change our messaging. A pattern you discover can influence a campaign.

You will be close enough to the business to see the consequences of your work.

The Kind of Person Who Will Thrive Here

You don't need founder-level intensity.

But you do need to care deeply about becoming good at what you do.

You are ambitious without being impatient. Competitive without making everything about yourself. Confident enough to have an opinion and humble enough to update it.

You like people.

You like learning.

You don't mind hearing "no."

And when you encounter something you don't understand, your instinct is to figure it out.

If that sounds like you, we'd like to meet you.

From day 1, Prodigal has been defined by talented, humble, and hungry leaders and we want this mindset and culture to continue to blossom from top to bottom in the company. If you have an entrepreneurial spirit and want to work in a fast-paced, intellectually-stimulating environment where you will be pushed to grow, then please reach out because we are looking to build a transformational company that reinvents one of the biggest industries in the US.
