Buffet Steward (Japanese Speaking)

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver warm, attentive buffet service to all guests in assigned areas, consistently following Princess Cruises’ Service Excellence standards.
• Set up, replenish, and break down buffet stations and adjacent service areas according to daily service plans and brand presentation standards.
• Maintain full knowledge of buffet offerings, daily menus, and beverage options, including items popular with Japanese guests, to confidently answer questions and make recommendations.
• Support smooth guest flow through the buffet by proactively guiding guests, assisting with seating where appropriate, and responding promptly to requests.
• Monitor food quality, temperature, and presentation throughout service, promptly reporting any issues with food, drinks, or service to the supervisor.
• Ensure all buffet counters, equipment, and surrounding areas are clean, safe, and well‑stocked at all times, in line with USPH and environmental regulations.
• Accurately record and process guest orders or transactions when required, using onboard systems in accordance with company procedures.
• Actively participate in pre‑service briefings, promotions, and sales initiatives, including beverage or dining packages relevant to buffet service.
• Communicate clearly and professionally with guests in both English and Japanese, adapting to a variety of cultures and passenger demographics.
• Collaborate closely with restaurant, galley, and beverage teams, performing other duties as assigned by supervisors or senior management to support overall Food & Beverage operations.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

• Food & Beverage Experience: Minimum 1 year of recent experience in a restaurant, hotel, cruise ship, or similar high‑volume food and beverage environment; buffet or casual dining experience is an advantage.
• Guest Service Focus: Demonstrated ability to deliver warm, attentive, and professional service, with a genuine desire to create memorable experiences for guests.
• Public Health & Sanitation: Basic understanding of public health and sanitation standards (e.g. USPH) and willingness to follow all hygiene, food‑handling, and environmental procedures.
• Technical & POS Skills: Basic computer literacy and familiarity with point‑of‑sale (POS) systems or the ability to learn onboard systems quickly.
• Communication Skills: Good command of the English language, both verbal and written, with the ability to communicate clearly and courteously with guests and teammates.
• Japanese Language Skills: Strong verbal and written Japanese language skills, with the ability to hold conversations and provide service to Japanese‑speaking guests.
• Teamwork & Collaboration: Proven ability to work effectively as part of a diverse, multicultural team in a fast‑paced environment.
• Adaptability & Resilience: Comfortable working under pressure, managing multiple tasks during busy service periods, and adapting to changing schedules and operational needs.
• Professionalism & Appearance: High personal standards of professionalism, punctuality, and grooming in line with company guidelines.
• Training & Compliance: Willingness to attend required training (including USPH and safety courses) and maintain full compliance with all company policies, safety procedures, and emergency duties.
