Staff Software Engineer, GTM Engineering

Since we opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely, and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take payments and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn't work together.

The Role
As a Staff Software Engineer on the GTM Engineering team, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining services and infrastructure that support Squares Go-To-Market strategies. You will be deeply involved in the technical details of building the services that enable Square to communicate directly with merchants all over the world.
You Will

• Design and iterate on our Communications Infrastructure, used by our teams to reach merchants via email, text, push notifications, and more
• Build a platform used by product teams, marketers, and sales people to streamline outreach campaigns, outage communications, and more - with a focus on scaling the speed of throughput of messages while keeping costs manageable.
• Design and implement custom audience segmentation and analytics systems
• Build tools used by your coworkers to give time back and make them the most effective.
• Ensure Square is well positioned in the global marketplace; with localized support for all of our markets baked into everything we build.
• Build systems that manage customers' sensitive data and hold Square to the highest standards for security and compliance
• Mentor other engineers and contribute to the direction of the team
• Work with our product, sales, marketing, support and finance teams to develop Square's go-to-market strategy
• Focus on operational excellence to deliver fault-tolerant systems enabling our teams to move fast without negatively affecting our customer

You Have

• 8+ years of software engineering experience
• BA/BS degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
• Experience successfully leading complex projects and breaking down the work into components and milestones that can easily be picked up by other engineers
• High empathy for the users of your system, with an eye for simple, effective workflows
• Eagerness to learn, share your ideas, and work with others
• Willingness to collaborate and grow as an engineer

Even better:

• Enterprise experience with JVM languages (Java, Kotlin)
• Experience with Ruby-on-rails
• Experience integrating with Salesforce
• Experience working with lower level implementations of email, SMS, etc.
• Knowledge of the sales, marketing, or support disciplines
