The Sourcing Specialist - Senior leads complex sourcing strategies, conducts market analyses, manages supplier relations, and negotiates contracts to ensure supply chain efficiency and compliance with company policies.
The Sourcing Specialist – Senior is responsible for executing and leading complex sourcing strategies that optimize cost, quality, delivery, and supplier relationships while considering the end-to-end supply chain impact. This role conducts detailed market, supply chain, and supplier base analyses to support sourcing process improvements and ensure continuity of supply. The incumbent independently manages sourcing initiatives, negotiates select contracts, and partners with stakeholders to deliver best-value outcomes in alignment with Cummins’ sourcing strategies, compliance requirements, and ethical standards.
Key Responsibilities- Independently execute complex sourcing activities with full awareness of their impact across the end-to-end supply chain.
- Execute sourcing tactics aligned with established category and commodity strategies to achieve optimum cost, quality, delivery, and total value.
- Participate in the development and refinement of sourcing and category commodity strategies using a Total Value Performance (TVP) approach.
- Conduct complex analysis of markets, supplier capabilities, and procurement processes to identify improvement opportunities and cost-effective solutions.
- Prepare and present data-driven recommendations, including alternative sourcing approaches, to senior procurement and sourcing leadership.
- Ensure consistent application of Cummins sourcing policies, procedures, tools, and ethical standards.
- Support procurement leadership through activities such as price benchmarking, supplier performance management, market and industry analysis, process analysis, and financial/model-based evaluations.
- Lead analytical projects and initiatives, providing guidance and coaching to less experienced sourcing analysts and specialists.
- May lead a team of sourcing analysts or specialists at the business-unit, category, or regional (IPO) level.
- Negotiate select supplier contracts and support contract development in accordance with Cummins templates, legal requirements, and Supplier Agreement Contracting Process (SACP).
- Identify, develop, and maintain effective supplier relationships to drive mutual value and long-term performance.
- Manage supply base risk by proactively identifying and mitigating risks related to continuity of supply, reputation, and margin protection.
- Protect Cummins’ intellectual property by ensuring appropriate engagement with Legal and adherence to IP ownership requirements.
- Demonstrate strong awareness of compliance requirements, including export controls and sanctions, and proactively address potential risks.

- Cost and Value Management: Applies Total Cost Opportunity (TCO) methodologies, cost modeling, and financial analysis to manage and improve competitiveness while protecting margins.
- Negotiations Excellence: Utilizes structured negotiation tools and strategies to achieve mutually beneficial contract outcomes.
- Supplier Relationship Management: Builds and manages strategic supplier relationships using SRM processes, scorecards, and governance models.
- Supply Base Risk Management: Identifies and mitigates supplier risks related to supply continuity, reputation, and cost through analytics, dual sourcing, and contingency planning.
- Procurement Ethics & Compliance: Demonstrates high ethical standards and strict adherence to Cummins procurement policies and procedures.
- Values Differences: Actively recognizes and respects diverse perspectives, cultures, and ways of working.
- 12–16 years of progressive experience in strategic sourcing or procurement, preferably within manufacturing or automotive environments.
- In-depth expertise in Forgings (Hot & Cold) and Castings commodities.
- Preferred exposure to fasteners, stamping, and machining categories.
- Strong experience in supplier relationship management, complex contract negotiations, and cost/value analysis.
- Proven proficiency in should-costing, spend analysis, RFQ execution, and purchase strategy development.
- Familiarity with global procurement practices and cross-cultural supplier engagement.
- Hands-on experience with contract management, RFQ processes, price settlement, and supplier performance management.
- College, university, or equivalent bachelor’s degree in a field appropriate to sourcing, supply chain, engineering, or business.
