Own technical delivery and direction for a software product or service area. Design and build maintainable Java applications, lead architecture and code reviews, develop automated tests, resolve system issues, and maintain technical roadmaps. Mentor engineers, remove delivery blockers, collaborate with product and architecture partners, and guide prototypes, user stories, and engineering practices. The role emphasizes system-level problem solving, performance, quality, and continuous delivery.
Daxko builds the software that powers fitness, wellness, and community organizations—everything from member management and payments to digital engagement and analytics. From small studios to the largest associations, we help thousands of fitness businesses streamline operations, enhance member experiences, and drive sustainable revenue growth.
About the role
You’ll own technical delivery for a full service or product area, partnering with product managers, architects, and fellow engineers to build software that performs well and delights the people who rely on it. You’ll set your team’s technical direction and help the engineers around you grow. This role fits someone who loves solving system-level problems, coaching others, and shipping high-quality work. You’ll report to the Manager, Engineering/Development.
What you’ll do
- Set technical direction for your team by choosing design patterns and frameworks, guiding its development course, and leading adoption of tools and practices that speed up delivery.
- Own the technical roadmap for your product or service, clear delivery blockers, and weigh feasibility and ROI as you shape priorities with product partners.
- Build clean, reusable, maintainable applications that run fast, respond well, and work across platforms.
- Lead system architecture and design reviews, and give clear, actionable feedback in code reviews.
- Write automated unit, integration, and acceptance tests that support our continuous integration pipelines, and push quality earlier in the development process.
- Find the root cause of data and system issues, then design permanent fixes.
- Mentor engineers across the full software development process, guide them as they build prototypes and validate ideas with data, and help shape user stories alongside your team.
What you’ll bring
- 6+ years of software engineering experience, and a bachelor’s degree in a related field (computer science, computer engineering, applied mathematics, or applied sciences) or equivalent experience
- Strong Java and object-oriented development skills, plus experience building and integrating with web services and RESTful APIs
- Solid SQL or relational database skills and an understanding of modern cloud architecture and tools
- Experience with automated testing (unit, integration, and performance), Git, and Agile development
- Advanced proficiency with agentic AI tools in your daily workflow
- Clear communication, so you can explain complex technical ideas to technical and non-technical partners, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
Nice to have
You don’t need all of these to apply. If you have some, we’d love to hear about them.
- Experience with Spring, Spring Security, and Spring Integration, plus Hibernate and JPA
- Experience with microservices architecture and JavaScript frameworks such as Angular or React
- Experience with MS SQL Server and caching tools such as Redis
- Experience with performance profiling, JVM tuning, and concurrency optimization
