Job Summary
The Senior Manager Finance & Accounting leads the development and execution of strategic financial policies and procedures. He/She ensures entity accountability for overall profitability and cost results. This position follows UPS purchasing guidelines and adheres to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The Senior Manager Finance & Accounting provides financial guidance and support cross-functionally. The position manages the department, providing direction and leadership.
Job Duties
Determines Country Strategy
- Works cross-functionally with Senior Managers of Marketing and Sales to establish strategy.
- Evaluates strategy to ensure it meets profit and business plan goals.
- Develops strategies and initiatives to improve financial performance.
Focuses on Customer
- Participates in the Customer Portfolio Management process to provide financial compliance and profitability information.
- Establishes relationships with key customers to retain and grow business.
- Reviews profitability on key accounts to maintain compliance.
Manages Profit and Business Plan
- Establishes and communicates profit and business plan targets to inform business planning.
- Monitors and reviews profit and business plan results to identify gaps.
- Participates in business planning reviews to report on financial measures and help determine solutions.
- Oversees the monthly business plan close to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
- Reviews profit and business plan results with the Business Planning Unit and senior manager to determine solutions.
- Analyzes and reviews profit impact reports to identify trends, gaps and solutions.
Guides and Educates Team
- Ensures monthly country business plan results are reviewed with district business units to understand the financial state of the Country.
- Reviews UPS quarterly earnings with the Business Planning Unit, Staff and district business units to determine status versus plan.
- Establishes reports to enhance Country financial performance.
- Trains Business Planning Unit and Staff on financial principles to ensure proper information is taught.
- Ensures financial training is completed with Country business units to educate processes.
Leads and Develops Others
- Manages resources and people processes (e.g., Quality Performance Review [QPR], Career Development, Succession Planning, Salary Administration, Training, Staffing, etc.) to ensure the day to day administration of processes and formal procedures.
- Identifies individual and team skill gaps and developmental opportunities (e.g., training, special assignments, projects, etc.) to facilitate individual and team development.
- Ensures that direct and indirect reports have specific, documented career goals and detailed plans for achieving these goals to advance the development of their personal and professional growth.
- Conducts frequent performance evaluations in a consistent, fair, and objective manner to facilitate open communication and encourage continuous performance improvement.
- Holds others accountable to established performance levels to achieve individual and group goals and maintain consistent practices across the organization.
- Resolves individual and group performance issues in accordance with UPS’s policies and procedures in a timely manner to motivate and foster teamwork.
- Coaches others and provides on-going feedback and support to improve performance as they take on greater responsibilities.
- Identifies opportunities to involve others in new and challenging work assignments that advance the skills and capabilities of individuals and the organization.
- Recommends employees for lateral rotations and promotions to provide them with opportunities to develop new skills and take on more responsibility.
Oversees Financial Compliance
- Monitors risk and liability exposure (e.g., General Liability, Workers Compensation, etc.) to reduce expenses and minimize property and asset exposure.
- Implements preventative and corrective action plans to prepare for internal and external audits.
- Researches and validates audit findings to develop corporate responses for auditor review.
- Completes statutory reporting to ensure regulatory compliance (e.g., Security Exchange Commission, filings, financial statement management, etc.).
- Monitors legal and regulatory changes to identify modifications affecting UPS business concerns (e.g., insurance, contracts, tax, etc.).

- Finance Knowledge Demonstrates an in-depth understanding of complex financial data; understands subtle implications in financial and other business data; creates new methods of financial analysis or business models and solutions; applies advanced principles and concepts in developing actions that support or define strategic direction.
- Legal, Regulatory, and Compliance Knowledge Resolves complex, recurring problems; advises others in improving safety and minimizing company risk; adapts organizational procedures or processes to meet new or changed regulations; provides expertise in legal or regulatory compliance issues; identifies compliance policies and procedures for new work environments.
General Requirements
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Proven ability to analyze complex financial data and translate insights into strategic business decisions.
- Demonstrated leadership and team management skills, with a track record of building high-performing teams and driving results.
Education
- Certified Chartered Accountant (CA).
Experience
- Minimum of 10 years of experience, including a people management role in a multinational (MNC) environment.
