The Work You'll Do:
At Sovos, we’re building the technology that powers global tax compliance for half of the Fortune 500 and thousands of businesses worldwide. As a Senior Development Manager, you will combine strong technical expertise with people and delivery leadership—managing 2–3 Scrum teams (approximately 8–10 members per team) and partnering closely with Product and Architecture to deliver scalable, enterprise‑grade solutions.
This role is ideal for a leader who enjoys enabling others to succeed, balancing hands‑on technical depth with coaching, execution, and team development. You’ll play a key role in shaping engineering culture, improving delivery predictability, and ensuring our teams build the right solutions the right way.
More specifically, you will:
People & Team Leadership
- Manage, coach, and develop teams, fostering a high-performance, inclusive, and accountable team culture.
- Provide regular feedback, conduct 1:1s, support career development plans, and lead performance discussions for direct reports
- Support hiring, onboarding, and ramp‑up of new team members, ensuring team capacity and skill balance align with delivery needs
- Create a psychologically safe environment that encourages ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement
- Capable of influencing others and leading change to a successful implementation
- Collaborates across different areas and levels at Sovos, builds global partnerships, communicates effectively, resolves conflicts constructively, consistently demonstrates emotional maturity, and supports consensus-based decisions.
Delivery & Execution
- Own end-to-end delivery for your team, including sprint planning, execution, estimation, dependency management, and delivery commitments
- Partner with Product Management to align technical execution with business priorities, timelines, and outcomes
- Identify delivery risks early and proactively manage trade‑offs related to scope, quality, and timelines
- Ensure consistent execution of Agile/Scrum practices and continuously improve team efficiency and predictability
Technical & Architectural Leadership
- Technical responsibility and reference for a product or solution
- Provide technical guidance and oversight while enabling senior engineers to make sound design and implementation decisions
- Lead and support the design, development, testing, and deployment of software solutions
- Drive and participate in architectural discussions, contributing to the evolution of Sovos’ technology platform
- Ensure solutions are scalable, maintainable, secure, and aligned with enterprise standards
Engineering Excellence & Quality
- Champion a culture of high code quality, testing discipline, and engineering best practices
- Establish and enforce coding standards, design guidelines, and review processes
- Conduct and oversee peer code reviews to maintain quality and consistency
- Promote continuous learning through mentoring, knowledge sharing, and adoption of modern engineering practices
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Product, QA, Architecture, DevOps, and other Development managers to deliver cohesive solutions
- Communicate clearly with stakeholders on progress, risks, and outcomes
- Align team goals with broader engineering and organizational objectives

What we need from you
- Bachelor's Degree in IT/Computer Science
- Minimum of 10+ years of work experience in software development
- Proven experience leading or mentoring development teams
- Well versed with SDLC right from ideation to execution and further support.
- Strong knowledge of security and quality processes
- Skilled in software and systems architecture with a strong understanding of scalable design
- Skilled in Microservice Architecture
- Good understanding of AWS architecture, services, best practices and cost management
- Working experience in C#
- Understanding of React is a plus
- Ability to achieve results in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Strong communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with teammates, colleagues, and customers
- Ability to comprehend and communicate complex technical concepts clearly
- Analytical mindset with the ability to concentrate on and resolve complex problems
- Due to client contractual obligations, the successful candidate will be asked to clear a background check upon hire
