The Opportunity
We are building a talent community for experienced database and DevOps engineers who can design, automate and support business-critical database platforms. The role provides production and development support for database applications, establishes build and operational standards, and acts as a technical escalation point for complex database issues.
You will help design, deploy, migrate and operate Oracle and SQL database environments on Microsoft Azure. Working closely with database design, application and cloud teams, you will create robust, scalable and secure services while supporting the migration of database workloads from on-premises environments.
What You’ll Do (When You Join Us)
As a Lead Database Engineer - DevOps, you will combine deep database engineering expertise with automation, cloud and site reliability practices.
Architect, Build and Standardise:
Develop and maintain database build standards covering security, patching, resilience and high availability. Provide database design support to development projects and help define scalable database architectures. Design backup and recovery, clustering, data management and disaster recovery strategies. Support database connectivity through ODBC, JDBC and vendor-specific architectures. Review database application code, collaborate on improvements and maintain source code using standard company tooling.
Automate and Deliver:
Develop automation for database deployment and maintenance using DevOps tooling and Infrastructure-as-Code practices. Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for database changes and platform configuration. Implement Oracle database infrastructure in Azure and migrate workloads from on-premises environments. Use version control, secrets management, containers and orchestration tools to improve repeatability and control. Ensure solutions align with defined database, security and compliance standards.
Operate and Optimise:
Monitor database resources and manage capacity to maintain optimum performance and availability. Investigate and resolve production incidents, database issues and service disruptions in a timely manner. Perform performance tuning and diagnostics using query plan analysis and Oracle tools such as AWR, ASH and ADDM. Document and execute backup, restore, upgrade, patching and disaster recovery procedures. Define a database management strategy combining documented checks, automated monitoring and actionable alerts. Maintain database infrastructure, code and integrations as a reliable service for application teams.
Protect and Support:
Partner with IT Security to maintain database security policy and assess alignment with required controls. Assist Unix administrators and application teams where database expertise is required. Provide technical guidance, troubleshooting support and escalation leadership across technology boundaries. Participate in shift cover and on-call support, including planned maintenance outside normal business hours and at weekends.
