Design and build scalable Java and Spring Boot backend services for subscriptions, payments, entitlements, and Fire TV in-app purchases. Develop REST APIs, microservices, and event-driven workflows integrating payment providers and external platforms. Ensure high availability, fault tolerance, idempotent transaction processing, and performance during traffic spikes. Troubleshoot distributed production systems, improve observability, and participate in architecture and code reviews while mentoring engineers.
We are looking for experienced Java Backend Engineers to work on backend systems powering the Subscriptions and Payments ecosystem.
The engineers will contribute to Fire TV In-App Purchase (IAP) capabilities and build services responsible for subscriptions, payments, entitlements and transaction processing.
These systems operate at significant scale and need to remain highly available, fault tolerant and performant during major traffic spikes, including live sporting events and large content releases.
Responsibilities- Design and build scalable backend services using Java and Spring Boot.
- Develop high-performance REST APIs and microservices.
- Build backend capabilities for subscriptions, payments and user entitlements.
- Implement Fire TV IAP purchase and subscription workflows.
- Integrate with app stores, payment providers and external platform APIs.
- Build workflows covering purchases, renewals, cancellations, refunds and subscription-state changes.
- Design reliable, idempotent transaction-processing systems.
- Handle retries, failures, reconciliation and eventual consistency across distributed services.
- Build event-driven and asynchronous workflows using messaging systems.
- Design systems that can handle high throughput and sudden traffic spikes.
- Optimize service latency, throughput, scalability and infrastructure utilization.
- Improve observability through logging, metrics, tracing and alerting.
- Troubleshoot complex production issues across distributed services.
- Participate in architecture reviews, code reviews and technical-design discussions.
Requirements
- Strong programming experience with Java.
- Strong experience with Spring Boot / Spring ecosystem.
- Strong experience designing RESTful APIs and microservices.
- Solid understanding of distributed systems, concurrency and asynchronous processing.
- Experience with SQL databases such as PostgreSQL/MySQL.
- Experience with NoSQL databases is desirable.
- Experience with caching technologies such as Redis.
- Experience with Kafka or similar event-streaming/messaging platforms.
- Understanding of transaction management, idempotency and data consistency.
- Experience with AWS or similar cloud platforms.
- Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes and CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong production-debugging and performance-optimization skills.
- 7+ years of backend engineering experience.
- Strong architecture and system-design expertise.
- Experience building high-throughput, low-latency and highly available systems.
- Strong understanding of failure handling and distributed-system design.
- Ability to independently drive complex platform integrations.
- Experience mentoring engineers and reviewing architecture and code.
