Build the company’s QA practice and automation strategy from scratch. Design scalable automated testing for React Native mobile apps, APIs, and web applications; integrate tests into CI/CD; perform functional, exploratory, regression, performance, accessibility, security, and visual testing; manage defects, quality metrics, release criteria, and sign-off; and improve test coverage, reliability, and execution speed.
Company Introduction
Codebase is a young software services company with a great pool of tech-savvy developers. We started in the spring of 2018, and have been growing aggressively. We are located in Pune, India, and serve software product companies across the globe; focusing on enterprise SaaS, eCommerce, cloud, and application development.
Currently, we do not have an automation framework in place. As our first dedicated QA hire, you will define the overall testing strategy, select the right tools and technologies, and build reliable automated test coverage across our React Native mobile application, APIs, and web application.
This is a hands-on role for someone who has previously built a QA practice—not someone who has only maintained an existing automation framework. You will have the independence to establish standards, make tooling decisions, and create processes that provide a trustworthy quality signal for every release.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define and implement the overall QA and test automation strategy from scratch.
- Evaluate and select appropriate automation tools, frameworks, and technologies.
- Design and build scalable automation frameworks for: React Native applications on iOS and Android || APIs and backend services || Web applications
- Integrate automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines so that every build provides clear and reliable feedback.
- Create comprehensive test plans, test scenarios, and test cases based on product requirements and user workflows.
- Perform exploratory, functional, and regression testing across real mobile devices, operating systems, and browser versions.
- Work closely with developers and product stakeholders to identify risks and improve testability.
- Own defect reporting, prioritization, and bug triage in collaboration with the development team.
- Investigate test failures, identify root causes, and distinguish product defects from automation issues.
- Define quality standards, release criteria, and QA best practices across the engineering team.
- Provide release sign-off based on test results, known risks, and product readiness.
- Establish QA reporting, documentation, and quality metrics.
- Continuously improve test coverage, execution speed, reliability, and maintainability.
Requirements:
- 5-8 years Experience working as the first or lead QA engineer within a product or engineering team.
- Experience testing applications built with React or React Native.
- Familiarity with JavaScript or TypeScript-based automation frameworks.
- Experience with performance, accessibility, security, or visual regression testing.
- Experience working in a fast-moving Agile product environment.
- Knowledge of mobile build and release processes for the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
- Experience using cloud-based device testing platforms.
Nice to have:
- Experience with BDD frameworks (Cucumber)
- Knowledge of performance testing tools (JMeter)
- Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS/GCP)
- Experience with Docker or containerized environments
