Job DescriptionThe Product Manager for this role at Gracenote, a Nielsen business unit, the “dataset owner”, holds ultimate responsibility for making a specific set of core data commercially successful, including defining the collection and delivery of data in our products. The PM works with a cross-functional team to solve challenging problems experienced by our customers and in the media industry. They drive where and how the dataset they oversee is delivered in our various products and platforms.
In this role the PM leads initiatives, collaborating with several groups within the constraints of our business, to deliver enhanced features and new products. Delivering solid solutions involves collaboration with engineering, customer experience, operations, marketing, sales, finance and legal.
This position is an individual contributor role. The PM needs to successfully align colleagues, stakeholders, key executives, and the product team on the vision and strategy for their data, to drive the solutions via end-to-end ownership.
Depending on the candidate’s experience, this role will either be a PM or a Sr. PM.
Responsibilities
- Create and manage metadata products that power the TV entertainment solutions for the top cable, OTT, CE, and digital clients worldwide used by hundreds of millions of consumers.
- Work closely with clients and partners to understand their vision for the next generation of TV entertainment and develop a product strategy for video metadata to solve problems to help them get there.
- Meld clients business problems with an understanding of the market to define a clear product vision for your data product that aligns with the overall business and product strategy and drives product growth.
- Collaborate with internal cross-functional stakeholders and external partners to prioritize and deliver your compelling roadmap that fulfills the product vision.
- Become the Subject Matter Expert on the video metadata available, and internal delivery pipelines to ensure you can deliver the best data product for your clients.
- Track industry trends, standards organizations activity, and the competitive landscape.
- Engage with Engineering to define the optimal XML/JSON delivery schemas that allow clients to effortlessly integrate our metadata products into their backend systems.
Desired Skills/Experience
- Bachelor's degree with a technical focus or equivalent work experience.
- 2-6+ years working on technology-powered products as a Product Manager
- Proven ability to build strong relationships and work effectively with cross-functional teams - engineering, customer experience, operations, marketing, sales, finance and legal - and company leaders.
- Experience managing projects and stakeholders.
- Proven ability to deliver solutions to problems with many constraints.
- Ability to document solutions in a well-structured, data-informed, written narrative.
- Experience working in an Agile/Scrum work environment as a Product Owner: writing requirements, engaging with Engineering to define the technical solution and following the development process.
- Comfortable with XML, JSON, SQL, and APIs.
- A passion for rolling up your sleeves and digging into the details of data.
- Acts like an owner, and has a bias for action.
- Commercially-minded.
- Highly organized, proactive, critical thinker.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Skills/Experience
- Experience in OTT, TV broadcast, or supporting customers who develop products for digital content consumption.
- Experience with at least one programming language, ideally R, Python, Ruby or JavaScript.
- Strong passion for Television and Movie content, sports, metadata, and user experiences on entertainment platforms.
