The Opportunity
A Data Platform Engineer is responsible for building the building blocks (Infrastructure, Pipelines, frameworks), maintaining, creating reusable frameworks and patters using cloud-native tools and Takeda approved COTS technologies that data solutions and platforms can leverage. They work closely with Architects, Product Owners, and Engineering teams to understand their needs and build data infrastructure and patterns to support complex data use cases aligning with Takeda's Data & Digital strategy. To excel in this role, the ideal candidate should have a strong background in cloud/software engineering, experience with Data foundation, Integrations, AWS and its underlying services; and a passion for modern technology postures like Data Lakes, Data Mesh, Data Fabric, AI/ML and solutions.
Responsibilities
- The Data Platform Engineer builds platforms foundation, frameworks, and tools for Data teams at Takeda, such as Integration, Cloud, machine learning and Advanced analytics tools. We enable technology and products that acerates the Data engineers, Data scientists and architects to build the data solutions that helps business make decisions that have a significant impact on Takeda.
- Building platform patterns and foundational frameworks in driving new processes using cloud native/COTS tooling and infrastructure-as-code.
- Be responsible in developing product mindset, time-to-market, Automation, CI/CD, self-service, governance, security, agile, team member, resilience, and user centric mindset.
- Be responsible for the planning, implementation, and growth of the Cloud Infrastructure.
- Data Platform engineers needs to ensure all the governance, process, security, costs, privacy, reusability, business/technology resilience, Optimized, scale, user experience, self-service and auditability are incorporated into the Data Platforms and frameworks.
- Data Platform engineers' pair with product and solution engineering teams to understand their needs and build data infrastructure to help them solve complex data use cases; creating practical, useful, and flexible tools, processes, and code to help deliver the solutions at scale to a huge swath of data solutions.
- The primary goal is the reduce the time to market for Solution/technology build, delivery adhering to Well Architected frameworks. The engineer is responsible to adher and enforcement.

- Implement data services to meet target architecture and business solutions.

- Work with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to assess applications, software, and hardware.
- Develop, coordinate, and administrate Cloud infrastructure (IaaS, PaaS, Saas) and On-prem.
- Automate deployments, infrastructure as code using Terraform and ansible.
- Be responsilbe in building serverless infra/solutions with containerization, (Kubernetes, Docker)
- Oversee governance and mitigate risk. Ability to implement the cost saving measures is must.
- Work with cloud engineering, Operations teams to design and develop cloud native systems.
- Create, build, and implement applications based on modern cloud design patterns and cloud software development that utilizes cloud computing and services in public, private, and hybrid clouds environments.
- Leverage cloud native services to drive innovation and increases speed to market in the software development life cycle.
- Work with technology, external and internal teams and vendor as needed.
- Maintain application DevOps processes (CI/CD) and deployment pipelines to implement and support application and feature releases.
- Assist in system migration to the cloud, supporting refactoring legacy system to modernize the application or integration services to leverage cloud native services and solutions.
- Continue to learn and grow professionally as a cloud native engineer.
- Building data infrastructure and ensuring the business and technology needs; Knowledge and experience across the infrastructure stack is critical.
- The role involves working with highly cross-functional, and collaboration across all mediums with business stakeholders, software engineers, data scientists, and data engineers across all of Takeda's business units requires good communication skills.
- Participate in planning, definition, and high-level design of integration solutions; explore architectural alternatives, aid teams in identifying technologies and making architectural decisions.
- Work with highly demanding environment and work with team members.
- Manage AWS services and implement AWS services for solutions.
- Building repeatable processes for Cloud cost optimization and compliance activities
- Collaborate with Cross Enterprise teams to implement and collaborate on platform services.
- Determine the necessary technology competencies for teams together with unit leadership.
- Participate in release preparation and planning to determine necessary architectural improvements according to architecture roadmap and current priorities in unit backlog.
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, Management Information Systems, Technology with 5 years relevant work experience or master's degree with 3+ years' experience.
- 3+ Experience in modern Data Platforms and Cloud infrastructure
- 3+ Experience with cloud platform, preferable Amazon Web Services (AWS). Knowledge of Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or Azure would be nice to have.
- Experience with Data Services, Serverless, Containers, Identify, Security, Privacy, Active Directory, Encryption/Decryptions, API, Streaming, Linux/Unix operating systems, web, and application servers.
- Good foundation working in Enterprise Environments, Data Warehouse, Data Lakes, ETL/ELT, Advanced Analytics, AI/ML, DevOps, sysops and Data Management
- Experience in agile development. Exposure to multiple, diverse technologies and processing environments in a globally distributed organization.
- Strong communication skills with ability to align organization on complex technical decisions.
- Experience developing full stack Product/solutions and utilizing software build and deployment tools like GIT or similar technologies.
- 3+ years of experience developing full stack solutions and utilizing software build and deployment tools
- 3+ years of cloud native language experience (Lambda, shell, Node.js, Python)
- Experience working with IaaC languages (Terraform (preferable),Chef, Ansible, CloudFormation)
- Strong understanding of the organization's goals and objectives.
- Good knowledge of applicable data privacy practices, laws and regulations.
- Exceptional analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent technical architecture and technical support documentation skills.
- Ability to research issues (Technical/non-technical), standards, and products as required.
- Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
- Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret technical information and apply it to corporate goals.
- Strong problem solving, troubleshooting skills, and experience with FinOps or SysOps experience,
