The position
This is an exciting time to join Remote and make a personal difference in the global employment space as a Payroll Country expert (or Regional) , joining our Payroll Risk and Compliance team.
Our ideal candidate will have experience in regional/global payroll operations, including a deep understanding of wage tax laws and social security regulations in at least one country. Proven track record in identifying payroll compliance risks and implementing controls.
Requirements
- Strong Legislation expertise in India country/region
- Proven experience in a senior payroll role within an in-house payroll environment processing payroll or being in an payroll audit, compliance role.
- Understands the approach taken by local authorities and has proven track record of communicating with authorities to resolve matters.
- Has had exposure to local authority investigations and audits
- Experience in making recommendations for process improvements and ensuring that they are implemented
- Strong sense of accountability and ownership of tasks
- Proficiency in data manipulation (eg sql, Excel)
- Excellent time management and organisational skills
- An analytical mindset with great problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, international work environment with a passion for making an impact.
- Is a productivity geek and will constantly think of ways to improve and speed up their work.
- You understand the need and ideal to work largely asynchronously.
- Writes and speaks fluent English as well as the local language being recruited for.
- It's not required to have experience working remotely, but considered a plus
Key responsibilities
- Act as a true local employment legislation and tax expert for India country / region
- Risk and Compliance: Conduct comprehensive risk reviews of payroll files to verify accuracy and compliance with all governmental wage tax laws (federal, state and local) and social security requirements. Identify and rectify discrepancies, underpayments, or overpayments, and recommend corrective actions.
- Reporting and Documentation: Prepare detailed audit findings reports, highlighting areas of concern and recommending improvements to payroll processes. Maintain strong records of audits performed, methodologies used, and the resolution of identified issues.
- Responsible for ensuring the correctness of our payroll processes and that checklists, sign-off criteria and the network is fully embedded into Payroll Operations
- Monitor regulatory climate and ensure changes are understood, implemented, incorporated and communicated to Internal and external teams, as required
- Provide support and training on compliance matters to payroll staff.
- Maintain country knowledge pages
- Overall responsibility for compliance and reporting to the Manager of Payroll Compliance and Audit, working with Tax, Legal and Payroll.
- Experience in accounting/reconciliations
- Skilled in implementing recommendations to improve processes
- Working with internal teams to improve our platform, completing UAT testing through to sign-off. Ensure all changes are documented .

We use geo ranges to consider geographic pay differentials as part of our global compensation strategy to remain competitive in various markets while we hiring globally.
The base salary range for this full-time position is $122,200 USD to $137,500 USD. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level and location, and our job titles may span more than one career level. The actual base pay for the successful candidate in this role is dependent upon many factors such as location, transferable or job-related skills, work experience, relevant training, business needs, and market demands. The base salary range may be subject to change.
