Purpose of the role
To apply software engineering techniques, automation, and best practices in incident response, to ensure the reliability, availability, and scalability of the systems, platforms, and technology through them.
Accountabilities
- Availability, performance, and scalability of systems and services through proactive monitoring, maintenance, and capacity planning.
- Resolution, analysis and response to system outages and disruptions, and implement measures to prevent similar incidents from recurring.
- Development of tools and scripts to automate operational processes, reducing manual workload, increasing efficiency, and improving system resilience.
- Monitoring and optimisation of system performance and resource usage, identify and address bottlenecks, and implement best practices for performance tuning.
- Collaboration with development teams to integrate best practices for reliability, scalability, and performance into the software development lifecycle, and work closely with other teams to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
- Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations, and actively contribute to the organization's technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.

You will be shaping the direction of our database administration, ensuring our technological approaches are innovative and aligned with the Bank’s business goals. You will be guiding high-impact projects to completion, collaborate with management, and implement site reliability engineer practices using software engineering and database administration to address infrastructure and operational challenges at scale. You will be data-driven and work through simplification, automation, and observability, thereby enhancing the reliability of our platforms. You will be focusing on database scalability, availability, security, and performance and work closely with the Engineering team, product managers, and other teams. You will be ensuring the seamless flow and robust security of information on our platforms, meeting high traffic volumes, and demanding operational needs.
To be a successful Mongo Site Reliability Engineer Lead, you should have experience with:
- 10+ years of proven experience as a Principal Level Database Administrator, with a focus on MongoDB and similar database technologies such as Oracle, MS-SQL or DB2.
- Proven track record of implementing and leading site reliability engineer practices across large organizations or complex teams.
- Expert-level knowledge of telemetry, monitoring, and platform observability tooling (e.g., ESAAS, Grafana, Prometheus,) with experience in customizing and scaling these solutions.
- Leadership role in implementing modern DevOps and site reliability engineer practices in enterprise environments.
- Proven expertise in SQL query optimization and database performance tuning at scale.
- Experience with DevOps automation tools such as Code versioning (git), JIRA, Ansible, Containers and Kubernetes (OpenShift), database CI/CD tools and their implementation.
- Experience in implementing MongoDB Container patterns on Kubernetes with the help of a MongoDB operator or a Helm charts.
- Recognized as a MongoDB subject matter expert, serving as the highest level of technical escalation for complex database issues.
- Proven experience in designing and executing database migration strategies at enterprise-scale.
- Exceptional collaboration skills with executives and cross-functional teams.
- Extensive experience working with large, distributed, high-performance, high-availability databases with 24/7 uptime.
- Excellent spoken and written English communication skills.
Additional relevant skills given below are highly valued:
- Working experience in a financial environment
- Cloud experience (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Experience of working on Data migration tools and software.
- Expert in system configuration management tools such as Chef, Ansible for database server configurations.
- Expert expertise with scripting languages (e.g. PowerShell, Python, Bash) for automation/migration tasks.
- AWS Certified Database – Specialty certification is a plus.
