About the Role:
As a Marketing Specialist, you will embark on an exciting journey to support our marketing team. You will engage in diverse marketing activities, gaining exposure to various facets of our marketing operations, and contributing to projects that drive our organization's growth. This role is an exceptional opportunity to build foundational skills in marketing while supporting essential functions.
The Marketing Specialist will support our Journal Product Marketing team, which manages a portfolio of scholarly medical and nursing research journals. The ideal candidate is eager to take on a broad range of marketing responsibilities, possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills, can effectively manage multiple projects at once, and works collaboratively across global teams. Prior experience with medical or scientific content and collaboration across global teams is highly desirable.
Responsibilities:

  • Programmatic Email Campaign Management: Plan and execute recurring email marketing campaigns – including Hot Topic alerts and 26 specialty e-newsletters – aimed at driving web traffic, increasing full-text article downloads, and boosting journal content usage. Incorporate a data-driven approach to content selection (using tools like GA4 Google Analytics dashboards and Jasper AI) to optimize email open rates and engagement. Utilize Smartsheet for project tracking, task management, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure timely execution of marketing initiatives.
  • Conference Support and Collateral Development: Coordinate conference logistics for the Journal Product Marketing team, including ordering physical stock (journal issues, promotional materials) and managing shipments for medical and nursing conferences. Develop compelling marketing collateral (brochures, flyers, digital content) with internal Wolters Kluwer Central Marketing design services and/or other design service teams ensuring materials engage potential authors, highlight our journals’ competitive advantages and value, and drive increased content usage and subscription growth. Collaborate closely with the product marketing managers to tailor conference materials that resonate with researchers and clinicians.
  • Content Creation and Copywriting: Craft and refine marketing copy for email campaigns, conference materials, and online content. Leverage AI copywriting tools like Jasper to generate high-quality, engaging content that maintains our brand voice and effectively communicates key journal value propositions (e.g., impact factors, readership, and unique selling points) to target audiences.
  • Data-Driven Campaign Reporting: Track and analyze campaign performance metrics to measure success and inform continuous improvement. Use GA4 (Google Analytics 4) and Domo reporting dashboards to monitor email open rates, click-through rates, website traffic, manuscript submission growth, and full-text article download usage. Prepare regular campaign performance reports for both external stakeholders and internal teams.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with the Central Marketing team, graphic designers, and other stakeholders to develop content for programmatic email campaigns and to ensure cohesive branding and messaging at events. Coordinate with global team members across different time zones.
  • Continuous Improvement: Utilize data to refine marketing tactics. Plan recurring, programmatic content promotions (e.g., monthly content highlights) based on performance data, ensuring content remains fresh, relevant, and aligned with audience interests. Keep up to date with industry trends in scholarly publishing and digital marketing to introduce best practices into campaigns.
  • General Support: Provide broad support to the Journal Product Marketing team as needed. This may include assisting with other marketing projects assigned by leadership, troubleshooting marketing processes, and ensuring timely execution of all initiatives.

Skills:

  • Communication: Basic verbal and written communication skills.
  • Time Management: Ability to manage time and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Microsoft Office Suite: Proficiency in using basic functions of programs like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to organize tasks and materials efficiently.
  • Team Collaboration: Capability to work well within a team setting.
  • Strong project management, multitasking, and decision-making skills
  • Excellent Excel and PowerPoint skills

Highly-desired Experience:

  • Previous experience in the publishing industry or academia is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Familiarity with Smartsheet for project management and Adobe DC for annotating and editing PDFs.
  • Interpret and report on marketing metrics.
  • Desire to learn new concepts and work on new projects.
