The Market Access team is the link between Sanofi’s innovative medicines and the patients who need them most. Within the wider South East Asia & India structure, the India Market Access function combines deep local knowledge with global strategy to address the country’s complex healthcare environment. POSITION OVERVIEW
This senior leadership position is responsible for developing and executing comprehensive market access strategies across India to ensure optimal patient access to Sanofi's innovative therapies. The Market Access Lead will drive strategic initiatives to secure sustainable funding, establish favorable pricing frameworks, and shape healthcare policies that enhance patient access while ensuring business sustainability.
Operating at a national level, this role serves as the primary interface between Sanofi and key healthcare system stakeholders including government bodies, payers, policy makers, and industry associations. The position requires exceptional strategic thinking, stakeholder management capabilities, and deep understanding of the evolving Indian healthcare landscape.
The role directly impacts Sanofi's commercial success in India by creating pathways for therapy adoption, securing sustainable funding mechanisms, and positioning the company as a trusted partner in addressing healthcare challenges across the country.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Leadership & Execution
• Design and execute comprehensive market access strategies aligned with both global frameworks and local market dynamics to achieve organizational and business objectives. RD, RBD, Diabetes and Transplant experiences is plus.
• Provide visionary leadership and mentorship to teams, driving high-performance outcomes
• Develop innovative approaches to overcome access barriers in the complex and evolving Indian healthcare ecosystem
• Establish clear metrics and KPIs to measure the effectiveness of market access initiatives and strong execution skills.
Funding Source Development
• Create and unlock funding sources in public market at Central and State government levels through strategic engagement and value demonstration
• Identify and pursue new funding opportunities within regional healthcare budgets, including state health missions and disease-specific programs
• Develop strategies to secure sustainable funding pathways for innovative therapies through public-private partnerships
Pricing & Market Access
• Design differential pricing strategies across various channels (public, private, out-of-pocket) to maximize patient reach
• Develop value demonstration frameworks specific to the Indian context to support pricing negotiations
• Develop value-based pricing strategy including affordability programs, risk-sharing agreements, patient support program and early access initiatives tailored to local healthcare landscapes
• Develop sustainable pricing strategies to navigate price control mechanisms while ensuring business sustainability
• Lead interactions with National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) on pricing strategies, exemption applications, and compliance matters
Stakeholder Engagement & Policy Influence
• Cultivate Sanofi's standing as a trusted, patient-centric partner among policymakers and government stakeholders
• Actively participate in industry associations, governmental committees, and advocacy forums to ethically influence and shape access policies
• Engage key decision-makers across national and state health systems to drive healthcare system strengthening
• Establish Sanofi as a thought leader through participation in key healthcare forums and policy discussions
Cross-functional Collaboration
Having strong collaboration and communication skill to work closely with medical, marketing, communications, and public affairs teams to:
• Establish and lead cross-functional governance structures to ensure alignment on market access priorities and business priorities
• Drive collaborative approaches to complex market access challenges, breaking down silos between functions
• Lead joint working initiatives with external partners including patient organizations, professional societies, and industry associations
• Partner with medical affairs to develop evidence generation plans supporting access objectives
• Collaborate with government affairs on policy shaping initiatives
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Master's degree in Pharmacy, Business Administration, Public Health, Health Economics or related field
• 10-15 years of experience in pharmaceutical/healthcare industry with at least 5 years in market access, pricing, or government affairs
• Proven track record of successfully developing and implementing market access strategies in India
• Demonstrated experience in engaging with government stakeholders at central and state levels
• Strong understanding of Indian healthcare financing systems, reimbursement mechanisms, and pricing regulations
• Experience in health economics, outcomes research, and value demonstration
