Job Description - Application Engineer (Design & Engineering)
Job Responsibilities:
- Technical Support: Develop technically sound insulation and refractory solutions for HPI/CPI, steel, aluminium, power, cement and other high-temperature industries.
- Design & Engineering: Develop insulation and refractory lining designs based on operating temperature, process conditions, equipment geometry and customer specifications.
- Engineering Drawings: Prepare/review lining layouts, sectional details, material drawings and installation drawings using AutoCAD or similar tools.
- BOM/MTO: Prepare accurate material take-offs, BOM/MTO and engineering quantities based on lining drawings and approved designs.
- Thermal Calculations: Perform heat-loss, cold-face temperature, thermal conductivity and energy-saving calculations for insulation systems.
- Material Selection: Select suitable CF, PCW, refractory and auxiliary materials based on temperature, atmosphere, mechanical and chemical conditions.
- Project & Site Support: Provide technical support for site surveys, installation, commissioning, troubleshooting and failure analysis.
- Customer Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, conducting presentations and product demonstrations to showcase the benefits and applications of Alkegen’s materials.
- Market Analysis: Stay informed about industry trends, competitive products, and customer requirements to identify opportunities for product improvement and new applications.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with sales, marketing, and engineering teams to ensure alignment on product capabilities and market positioning. Provide technical insights to support sales strategies.
- Training and Education: Develop and deliver training materials and sessions for customers and internal teams to enhance understanding of product applications and technical specifications.
- Product Development: Collaborate with R&D and engineering teams to assist in the development and optimization of new products based on customer feedback and market needs.
- Team Development: Mentor junior engineers, share technical knowledge and develop standard engineering tools and practices.
- Documentation: Create and maintain technical documentation, including application notes, specifications, and case studies to support customer engagement and product development.
Qualifications/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Ceramic Engineering, Mechanical engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field; a Master’s degree is preferred.
- 8–12 years of relevant experience, preferably with at least 5 years in Ceramic Fibre, Refractory, thermal insulation or high-temperature applications.
- Experience in working 2D/3D design & drafting softwares.
- Good understanding of heat transfer, thermal conductivity, heat-loss calculations and insulation system design.
- Experience in preparing/reviewing engineering drawings, lining layouts, sectional details and BOM/MTO.
- Experience in HPI/CPI, steel, aluminium, power, cement or other process industries is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with API, ASTM, EIL and major EPC/customer specifications is desirable.
- Strong understanding of materials properties and engineering principles related to product applications.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a customer-focused mindset.
- Proficient in technical documentation and software tools relevant to engineering and project management.
