We have an existing opportunity to add a Junior Mechanical Engineer to our Collision Reconstruction Team!
Reporting to the National Director, Accident Reconstruction and Biomechanics, the successful candidate will use their technical background to develop the skills necessary to complete motor vehicle examinations, motor vehicle collision reconstructions, evaluation of evidence and incident liability analyses, and assessment of slips, trips, and falls.
The work will involve such activities as deemed necessary to carry out accident reconstruction, which may include: attending sites, obtaining measurements, vehicle data collection, surveying/scanning vehicles and scenes, running analyses, and report writing. It will require access to an automobile to travel with various pieces of equipment to remote locations to carry out vehicle examinations and scene examinations. This position will also involve some degree of business development.
Job Responsibilities
o Vehicle data downloads – download of vehicle diagnostic trouble codes, event data recorder data, and telematics data.
o Vehicle examinations (automobile, motorcycle, heavy truck, off-road), assess and measure/survey the exterior damage, examine and assess the vehicle restraint systems, acquisition of fluid and paint samples.
o Coordinate and potentially attend site investigations – photography, measuring and digital surveying.
o Knowledge of the use of test equipment for site investigations such as brake testing, curve acceleration testing, visibility (day/night) testing and slip-testing equipment in the case of slip and fall accidents.
o Data analysis – analysis of acquired vehicle data to understand driver and vehicle behaviours with respect to collisions.
o Collision reconstruction – learning and applying computerized tools to investigate collisions including video analysis and collision simulation
o Report writing – development reports concerning SIU investigations and liability investigations for insurance and legal clients.
Qualifications and Experience:
o Graduating/recent graduate/engineer-in-training with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar.
o Licensure in a provincial Engineering Association, or ability to become licensed a must
o Must have valid G license, and ability to work in remote areas, as well as in a range of temperatures and weather conditions.
o Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and good command of the English language.
o Familiarity with PC Crash is an asset.
