Job Description

Purpose of the role

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues. 

Accountabilities

  • Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
  • Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
  • Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.

Join us as a Java Full Stack Software Engineer at Barclays where you will spearhead the evolution of our infrastructure and deployment pipelines, driving innovation and operational excellence. You will harness cutting-edge technology to build and manage robust, scalable and secure infrastructure, ensuring seamless delivery of our digital solutions. 

To be successful as a Java Full Stack Software Engineer, you should have experience with:

  • Develop and enhance backend services using Core Java, Exception Handling, Spring Boot, and Microservices and should have clear conceptual understanding.
  • Build responsive, scalable UI components using React, JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, and CSS.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to deliver end‑to‑end features.
  • Perform production log analysis, issue investigation, and root cause analysis for defects. Knowledge of ESaaS, AppDynamics, OpenShift.
  • Participate in code reviews, adhere to coding standards, and ensure high‑quality delivery.
  • Understanding of OpenShift, Jenkins, GitLab, and CI/CD deployment workflows.
  • Strong analytical thinking and ability to handle production issues effectively.
  • Working experience in sprint environment.

  Some other highly valued skills may include:

  • Understand the various phases of the software development lifecycle.
  • Familiarity with GitLab Duo, GitHub Copilot, component testing, and mutation testing.
  • Understanding of TDD.
