Investment Compliance Coding

 Primary Key Responsibilities (Top 3-5 KRA)

• Review and interpretation of client mandates, IMAs, Fund Guidelines and Retail product documentation, to implement and maintain accuracy of rules (management and coding) on Aladdin and proprietary systems pertaining to client, regulatory and house restrictions;
• Perform the review of regulatory and client guidelines to ensure accuracy and efficiency of existing rules coded and/or to code relevant rules on order management system (Aladdin)
• Coding investment restrictions and testing rule evaluation capabilities including testing of system and non-automated monitoring activities and on-going system maintenance
• Prepare documentation to support reviews conducted and to substantiate/demonstrate adequate processes/controls in coding rules on order management system.
• Understand and address specific client nuances to deliver appropriate and optimal solutions that meet their objectives.
• Serve as a change agent by providing technical expertise for key compliance reporting projects, offering a comprehensive view of rule coding and identifying any breaches.
• Liaising and working with BlackRock Solutions (BRS) on Aladdin issues and requirements; maintaining the coding approvers table
• Provide support to the Fund Managers on queries relating to pre and post trade rules and exceptions.

Additional Responsibilities :

• Investigation of real-time pre trade and daily violations generated to mitigate risk and ascertain the reason for any breaches / exceptions.
• Communication with the relevant business areas for breach resolution and breach logging.
• Investigate temporary exemptions and special exemptions. Maintain, report and review the exemptions register on a monthly basis.
• Support breach reporting and production of MI reporting to key stakeholders and committees
• Coding and Testing M&G’s Rule evaluation capabilities (including testing of system and non-automated monitoring activities)
• Liaising and working with BlackRock Solutions (BRS) on Aladdin issues and requirements

Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Educational Qualification

Knowledge & Skills (Must Have) :

Domain Expertise:

• Coding or report writing experience, ideally with logic-based database systems
• Through understanding of Investment Business is mandatory
• Excellent financial market and instrument knowledge
• Excellent written and verbal communication
• Strong analytical, organisational and problem solving skills
• Experience using BlackRock Aladdin is a significant plus

Technical Expertise:

• Relevant technical certification on SQL and VB Script language
• Through understanding of Bloomberg/ Reuters application usage
• Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc) skills
• Microsoft Power BI Apps

• End to end ownership of the processes and issue resolution
• Ability to interact with Fund Managers on potential investment breaches
• Strong understanding of various asset classes to explain the Client Directors on potential impact of the breach on fund/ portfolio/ client investments

Knowledge & Skills (Additional) :

• Knowledge of security classification data, experience using Bloomberg, Reuters etc.
• Understanding of UK and European regulatory frameworks that impact investment guideline monitoring and UCITS/AIFM/NURS/COLL rules
• Excellent written and oral communication and analytical skills
• Ability to operate remotely, in a diverse and multi-cultural environment with international work or consultancy exposure
• Curious and continually looking to seek out improvements and not just accepting the status quo

Experience:

• Working experience of 3 to 4 years in a BUY side Asset Management company
• Experience in investment / Mandate / portfolio compliance monitoring within BUY side firms
• Experience of using investment guideline monitoring systems for pre and post-trade monitoring, escalation of investment guideline breaches and commenting on guideline violation reasons within the compliance monitoring system.
• Understanding and strong interpretation of Fund prospectus and IMA documentation
• Excellent partnership and stakeholder management skills as well as build strong relationships and work collaboratively with teams across the business
• Experience of liaising, influencing and negotiating effectively with all internal and external parties and stakeholders

Educational Qualification:

• Master’s Degree level in Finance/ Mathematics/ Economics
• CFA Qualification will be an added advantage
• FRM Certification will be desirable
• Relevant IOC or Investment Management qualification / Certification would be desirable.
• Technical certifications like SQL and VB
