Job DescriptionThe role
As an FX Supervisor, you’ll lead and inspire our FX team in Mumbai, driving the creative and technical delivery of complex effects across film and episodic projects. You’ll collaborate closely with the VFX and CG Supervisors, Producers, and other department leads to define the FX vision, plan production needs, and ensure seamless integration across 2D and 3D.
You’ll guide artists in creating high-quality simulations - from fire, smoke, water, and magical effects to large-scale destruction - ensuring work meets both artistic goals and technical requirements. Leveraging your deep knowledge of Houdini and related tools, you’ll troubleshoot challenges, optimize workflows, and enhance efficiency through collaboration with Pipeline and R&D.
As a department leader, you’ll mentor artists, foster an inclusive and creative environment, and help shape the studio’s FX standards through feedback, performance reviews, and technical development. Your blend of artistry, innovation, and leadership will ensure that every show delivers world-class visual effects that exceed client expectations.
Key skills
- Proven experience as an FX Supervisor or Senior FX Lead with supervisory responsibilities on high-end VFX shows.
- Deep expertise in Houdini (fluids, pyro, smoke, destruction, particles/grains) and experience with Maya, Nuke, and rendering workflows (Arnold, Mantra, or Karma).
- Strong understanding of FX pipelines, data management, and cross-department collaboration (layout, animation, lighting, comp).
- Experience in defining FX approaches, technical standards, and best practices for a team or department.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and mentoring skills to manage multiple artists, collaborate with global teams, and represent the FX department in client reviews.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex technical challenges and provide creative/technical guidance to the team.
- Familiarity with pipeline development, scripting (Python/VEX), and production tracking tools (ShotGrid or similar).
- A keen artistic eye for realism, timing, and cinematic storytelling in FX.
