Maintains, repairs, and troubleshoots shipboard electrical and electronic systems under the Chief Electrician. Responsibilities include supervising electrical maintenance, supporting emergency operations, managing contractors and stores, maintaining work reports, training second electrical engineers, and monitoring propulsion, switchboards, generators, navigation, entertainment, communications, safety, UPS, and fire detection systems. Requires an electrician’s license, fire-fighting training, shipboard electrical experience, and at least two years at sea on passenger vessels.
Position Summary:The above-mentioned position shall carry out the work orders given by Chief Electrician . Theyshall be skilled workers capable of working with minimum supervision, and with the ability toundertake all kinds of electrical maintenance and repair work and troubleshooting.Essential Duties & Responsibilities:All duties and responsibilities are to be performed in accordance with ISM/ISO and SQMstandards, USPH guidelines, Environmental, and Safety policies.Each shipboard employee may be required to perform all functions in various service venuesand throughout the ship.1. In accordance with Company policy, each employee conducts oneself in a professionaland courteous manner at all times. This consists of physical and verbal interactions withguests or fellow shipboard employees and/or in the presence of guest contact and Crewareas.2. GFM places the highest value on the environment and all crewmembers shall do thesame. This position shall work with supervisors and subordinates to understand andcomply with the company's environmental policies and be committed to safeguarding theenvironment. He/shall direct and immediately inform his/her immediate supervisor ifany environmental system does not function properly onboard.3. To be familiar with the Chief Electrician Duties and responsibilities and be prepared totake charge of the Electrical Division without advance notice, as the deputy and secondin charge of the Division. Maintenance and repair of the following equipment andsystems.Financial Responsibilities: The position is responsible for cost containment through the proper use, handling andmaintenance of chemicals, supplies and equipment.Motivational Responsibilities: Hapag Lloyd Cruises places the highest value on the environment, and all employees shall dothe same. Those assigned to this position shall work with superiors and subordinates tounderstand and comply with the company's environmental policies and be committed tosafeguard the environment. He shall directly and immediately inform his immediate superiorif any environmental system does not function properly. Training of 2nd Electrical Engineer's. Additional routines and work as assigned by Chief Electrician. Request additional manpower as needed (from the Chief Electrician) for repair andmaintenance under his responsibility. Keep the Chief Electrician verbally informed on a daily basis the status of all areas ofresponsibility. A work report book should be updated daily with more detailed information, and kept in theChief Electrician's office for his reference. Assist the Chief Electrician and ITS with the Division’s budget proposals.Technical Responsibilities: Assist the ITS with receiving of stores for the Electrical Department. Electric propulsion motors. Main switchboards. Generators and high voltage motors. Main switchboards with transformers and distribution. Electrical substations in accommodation, including transformers and switchboards. Automatic alarm and monitoring system (M.A.S.), including tank level gauging. Propulsion and steering machinery, including converters. Anti-fouling systems for seawater intakes (Cathodic). Supervision and control of elevator maintenance. Emergency light converter and associated emergency batteries. UPS with batteries. Steering gear with Weekly routines 1st Electrical Engineer needs to know the Red Condition operation in ECR and to be presentin case it is needed or it is asked from his supervisor under the direction of the ChiefEngineer. Navigation Equipment, including follow up of all service/work by contractors. Daily communication with the Navigation Officers regarding the state of the bridgeequipment, including responding to any comments in the “electrical fault” log book locatedon the Bridge. All entertainment systems, like Show lights, Audio/ Video, including related antennasystems. Stage rigging equipment, including platform lifts and curtains. Telephone exchanges, including related equipment like telephone sets and personal pagers. All UPS systems including batteries, emergency lighting UPS. Camera Surveillance System. Public Address System. Fire Detection System. Employee may be required to perform other job related duties assigned by their supervisor,management or the Chief EngineerQualifications:Hiring Requirements: Electrician’s License / Additional Electronics background preferred. Completed Fire Fighting Training. Previous experience maintaining electrical and electronics equipment onboard ships orashore. At least two (2) years at sea in passenger vessels.Language Requirements: Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly and cordially with guests. Ability to read and write English in order to understand and interpret written procedures.This includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms and toeffectively present information and respond to questions from guests, supervisors andco-workers.Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk;use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste orsmell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific visionabilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheralvision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. All shipboard employees must be physically able to participate in emergency life savingprocedures and drills. Full use and range of arms and legs as well as full visual, verbal andhearing abilities are required to receive and give instructions in the event of an emergencyincluding the lowering of lifeboats. Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
