Job Description – Engineering Manager (MERN Stack)

SolarSquare is looking for a dynamic Engineering Manager to lead and inspire a team of full-stack developers (SDE1 to SDE3). In this role, you’ll drive the technical strategy, system architecture, and execution excellence for our MERN stack platforms. You’ll combine hands-on technical expertise with strong leadership, mentoring, and stakeholder management to deliver scalable, secure, and high-performing products.
As part of a fast-paced startup environment, you will play a critical role in shaping SolarSquare’s technology roadmap while fostering a culture of technical excellence, ownership, and continuous learning.
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of full-stack developers, fostering technical ownership and professional growth.
- Define and drive the technical vision, architecture, and roadmap for MERN stack-based platforms.
- Collaborate with Product, Design, and Business teams to align technical initiatives with business goals.
- Establish and enforce engineering best practices across coding, testing, CI/CD pipelines, and deployments.
- Implement and manage observability systems (logging, monitoring, alerting) to ensure reliability in production.
- Optimize system performance, scalability, and cloud infrastructure cost efficiency (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Manage technical debt while balancing long-term engineering health with short-term business priorities.
- Recruit, onboard, and retain top engineering talent while creating growth opportunities for team members.
- Ensure compliance with security and data protection standards (e.g., OWASP, GDPR).
- Track delivery through clear metrics, setting expectations, and ensuring timely project execution.
- 8–12 years of experience in full-stack development, with at least 2+ years in a leadership role.
- Proven expertise in the MERN stack (MongoDB, Express.js, React.js, Node.js).
- Strong knowledge of distributed systems, microservices, and scalable architectures.
- Hands-on experience designing and scaling high-traffic web applications.
- Deep familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), containerization (Docker), and orchestration (Kubernetes).
- Proficiency with observability and monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Datadog).
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to bridge technical and business needs.
- Track record of building and leading high-performing engineering teams in agile environments.
- Experience with cost optimization, performance tuning, and security best practices in cloud-native systems.
- Bonus: Prior experience in established product-based companies or scaling teams in early-stage startups.
- Exposure to designing systems from scratch in a high-growth environment is highly desirable.
- Flexible working setup with hybrid options (Mon–Fri).
