Data is at the core of modern business, yet many teams struggle with its overwhelming volume and complexity. At Atlan, we’re changing that. As the world’s first active metadata platform, we help organisations transform data chaos into clarity and seamless collaboration.
From Fortune 500 leaders to hyper-growth startups, from automotive innovators redefining mobility to healthcare organisations saving lives, and from Wall Street powerhouses to Silicon Valley trailblazers — we empower ambitious teams across industries to unlock the full potential of their data.
Recognised as leaders by Gartner and Forrester and backed by Insight Partners, Atlan is at the forefront of reimagining how humans and data work together. Joining us means becoming part of a movement to shape a future where data drives extraordinary outcomes.
Infrastructure Services is the bedrock of the Atlan platform. Every service, workflow, application, and AI agent ultimately runs on the primitives this layer provides.
As a Director of Infrastructure, you will own where the platform runs, how it scales, how it stays secure, and how reliably it operates across tenants, regions, and deployment environments.
This is not a support role. This is a platform ownership role with end-to-end responsibility for Atlan’s infrastructure foundations and the authority to evolve them over time.
Platform Foundations
You will own the core infrastructure primitives that power Atlan and define the contracts they expose to the rest of engineering.
Compute and Orchestration
Own how workloads run, scale, and are isolated across the platform
Define execution environments for services, batch jobs, and workflows
Set policies for placement, autoscaling, and portability across environments
Networking and Connectivity
Own the network fabric that connects services securely and reliably
Define patterns for service-to-service communication, ingress/egress, and tenant isolation
Enable secure connectivity across regions and customer environments
Storage and Data Infrastructure
Own durable, performant, and cost-efficient storage foundations
Define region-aware storage, data residency, and lifecycle strategies
Balance durability, access patterns, and operational simplicity
Secrets, Keys, and Identity Primitives
Own infrastructure-level security primitives
Define how secrets, encryption, and workload identity are managed and enforced
Establish roots of trust that other platform layers build on
You will continuously evolve these foundations — challenging assumptions and raising the bar for leverage, safety, and scale.
Reliability, Resilience, and Scale
Define and uphold platform-level availability, durability, and recovery guarantees
Own disaster recovery strategy, backups, and failure testing
Embed reliability patterns into platform defaults
Lead capacity planning and scaling decisions
Cost, Efficiency, and Sustainability
Treat cost as a first-class architectural constraint
Define cost attribution and visibility across tenants and workloads
Drive efficiency through automation, scaling policies, and lifecycle design
Partner with Product and Finance on long-term sustainability
Security and Compliance
Own infrastructure-level security and compliance guarantees
Ensure encryption, isolation, and auditability by default
Partner with Security and Compliance teams to meet enterprise and regulatory requirements
Own infrastructure end-to-end with a small, senior, high-impact team
Stay close to architecture, design decisions, and critical systems
Set clear platform contracts and defaults for the rest of engineering
Act as a strategic partner to Application, Identity, AI, and Tenant Services teams
Lead incidents with calm judgment and systems thinking
Balance speed, reliability, security, and cost - explicitly and transparently
You’ve designed, built, and operated large-scale infrastructure platforms in production
You’re deeply comfortable with cloud-native, Kubernetes-based systems
You understand networking, storage, security, and distributed system failure modes
You’ve owned reliability, availability, and incident response in real systems
You treat infrastructure as a product with clear contracts and defaultsYou lead through clarity, technical judgment, and trust rather than not org size
