Job Description

Purpose of the role

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues. 

Accountabilities

  • Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
  • Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
  • Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.

You'll spearhead the evolution of our digital landscape, driving innovation and excellence. You will harness cutting-edge technology to revolutionise our digital offerings, ensuring unparalleled customer experiences.

 

To be successful as a DevOps Engineer you should have experience with:

  • Experience working in a DevOps role with a focus on cross-team collaboration.

  • Hands-on experience with OpenShift, Kubernetes, and Docker.

  • Familiarity with Maven builds and deploying Java Spring Boot applications to OpenShift or similar environments.

  • Strong communication skills to collaborate across different departments and teams.

  • Comfortable working with Unix systems and basic Unix commands.

  • Knowledge of managing CSR requests for TLS certificates.

  • Knowledge of Gitlab and/or Jenkins

  • Jenkins Pipeline Management

  • Create and modify Jenkins pipelines using Groovy as necessary.

  • Ensure smooth CI/CD pipeline operations and resolve any automation issues.

  • Raise CSR requests for TLS certificates and ensure the renewed certificates are correctly bound to the JKS store.

  • Modify OpenShift deployment templates to meet deployment needs.

  • Leverage experience with OpenShift, Kubernetes and Docker for managing containerized applications and ensuring efficient deployments.

  • Understand and manage Maven builds for Java Spring Boot applications.

 

Some other highly valued skills may include:

  • Basic understanding of ElasticSearch and FileBeat.

  • Familiarity with MQ, Solace, and optionally Kafka messaging platforms.

  • Experience with AutoSys JIL scripting for job automation and scheduling.

  • Knowledgeable in Jenkins and Groovy scripting for pipeline automation
