Team Profile
This role sits within a business function of MSIM (the Office of the Chief Operating Officer). The responsibilities of the team are broad and include derivatives business management and documentation, governance and conflicts management, in addition to business management and documentation relating to the separately managed account business. Team-members are responsible for documentation, negotiation and project-management matters, and are the personnel in the first-line responsible for designing and implementing solutions to manage legal and other risks for supported business areas.
Primary Responsibilities
The ISDA Negotiator’s primary role will be to draft and negotiate trading and clearing documentation relating to a full spectrum of derivatives, including equity, fixed income and commodity products, foreign exchange products, futures, repo/reverse repo and agency mortgage backed-securities. The ISDA Negotiator will also be responsible for project managing the workload and providing status updates to relevant stakeholders, as well as to maintain/develop relationships with key counterparty dealers and brokers. This is a dynamic position with broad responsibilities, ideal for a motivated, self-starting professional willing to dive into a number of new and challenging assignments.
The role will include the following:
• Negotiate and draft ISDAs and other derivatives agreements
• Handle amendments and negotiations with minimal supervision
• Ensure timely execution of all documents
• Draft templates of ISDAs and other derivatives agreements
• Liaise with derivatives operations and other internal teams to coordinate group’s work
• Prepare and distribute team global status reports
• Maintain relationships with key counterparty dealers and brokers
• Maintaining databases of contacts and agreements with respect to segregated managed accounts, funds and counterparty dealers and brokers
• Design, scope and manage various projects that arise from time to time
Skills required
- Have significant experience in the drafting and negotiation of derivatives documentation in a derivatives documentation unit of a major bank or large asset manager;
- be proficient in understanding of the ISDA master agreement and other related agreements and frameworks (e.g. clearing and repo);
- Have excellent oral and written communication skills and organizational and problem solving skills, attention to detail, excellent references, maturity, judgment and poise;
- have the ability and desire to take on and effectively prioritize multiple projects. The candidate must be a self-starter while still working collaboratively on a global basis and know when to escalate issues;
- be proficient in Word and Excel;
- be able to manage in a fast paced environment while meeting strict deadlines;
- Have prior experience as a paralegal at a law firm or large in-house legal department, or in a corporate finance / hedge fund/ asset management setting (helpful but not required).
