Data Strategy & Solutions (DS&S) is accelerating the future of investment research at BlackRock with alternative data, insights, and emerging technology. DS&S seeks a data engineer who is high-reaching and passionate about extraction and processing of unstructured web extracted data.
In this role, the candidate will collaborate with experienced engineers and teams to build and maintain data pipelines, develop internal web/data extraction tools and create dashboards to support investment decision-making. This is a great opportunity for someone eager to grow within a fast-paced, innovative environment while working on impactful projects.
You should be
- Someone who is passionate about solving sophisticated business problems through data!
- A developer building large scale scraping and extraction pipelines
- Excited to orchestrate workflows and manage deployment within GCP and Snowflake.
- Assisting with monitoring, quality assurance, and maintenance of data extraction systems.
- Enthusiastic to collaborate with global teams to validate and prototype new datasets, rapidly iterating toward usable formats for portfolio research.
- Always eager to contribute to internal tooling or dashboards that improve dataset accessibility and audibility.
What We’re Looking For
- 2–4 years of experience in data engineering, data extraction, web scraping, or unstructured data processing.
- Strong proficiency in Python, Pandas/NumPy, Regex & Text Processing, Shell scripting/Bash.
- Familiarity with web scraping tools or Beautiful Soup and data governance.
- Knowledge of frontend/ backend development (React, APIs, Python Flask or FastAPI, databases, cloud technologies) is a plus.
- Someone capable of working with unstructured or alternative data sources
- Competence in deploying solutions on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), particularly BigQuery and Cloud Functions along with experience with Snowflake for data modeling and performance tuning
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment with evolving priorities
- Effective communication and an ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.
- Data product lifecycle management from acquisition to QC and delivery is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail and a proactive approach
