Role Summary
The Control M Upgrade & Operations Specialist is responsible for end to end lifecycle management of BMC Control M, including version upgrades, platform maintenance, and 24 7 batch operations support. The role ensures stability, performance, compliance, and continuous improvement of enterprise batch workloads across distributed and hybrid environments.
Key Responsibilities
1. Control M Upgrade & Platform Management
Plan and execute Control M upgrades (Enterprise Manager, Server, Agents) across environments (DEV / QA / PROD)
Perform pre upgrade assessments, compatibility checks, and rollback planning
Coordinate with application, infrastructure, and security teams during upgrades
Apply Control M patches, fix packs, and hotfixes
Validate post upgrade stability, job execution, calendars, and dependencies
Upgrade and validate Control M Automation API, Self Service, and Forecasting
Support scheduler migrations from legacy tools to Control M
Maintain platform documentation, upgrade runbooks, and SOPs
2. Daily Control M Operations & Batch Support
Monitor daily batch execution and critical job chains
Handle job failures, reruns, restarts, and SLA breaches
Perform incident analysis and root cause analysis (RCA)
Support production, test, system, and housekeeping workflows
Manage job dependencies, conditions, resources, and calendars
Handle file transfer jobs and cross application integrations
Provide L2/L3 operational support in a 24 7 on call / shift model
Ensure business continuity and batch window compliance
3. Administration & Configuration
Administer Control M Enterprise Manager, Control M/Server, and Agents
Create and maintain folders, job definitions, calendars, site standards
Manage roles, users, authorizations, and security policies
Maintain Control M databases and configuration backups
Perform health checks and performance tuning
4. Automation & Optimization
Identify opportunities for batch optimization and automation
Reduce manual intervention and batch runtimes
Implement job flow improvements and dependency simplification
Leverage Control M Automation API for CI/CD and DevOps integrations
Support cloud and hybrid integrations (AWS, Azure, on prem)
Technical Skills & Experience
Mandatory
Strong hands on experience with BMC Control M (v8 / v9 / Helix)
Experience in Control M upgrades and patching
Expertise in batch scheduling concepts and workload automation
Linux/Unix and Windows operational knowledge
Experience with job dependencies, calendars, resources, and conditions
Certifications (Optional but Valuable)
BMC Certified Control M Professional
