We are looking for an experienced documentation and content leader to join and lead our technical documentation team. In this role, you will coordinate the day-to-day operation of a team of skilled knowledge and content professionals who look after our documentation efforts for our customers in addition to a global, internal audience. An average week might consist of facilitating 1:1s with direct reports, reviewing governance plans and programs, providing feedback and mentoring team members, meeting with colleagues in similar roles in other Cisco business units, and attending project meetings with internal stakeholders from Support, Product Management, or Engineering.

The ideal candidate has a passion for quality documentation, a keen understanding and experience with a few different documentation ecosystems and knowledge management programs, and successfully leveraged AI for content generation, improving accuracy, and enhancing search capabilities.

  • Plan for and participate in onboarding new talent to the team.

Documentation Ecosystem, Governance, and Alignment (40%)

  • Adapt our documentation ecosystem to take advantage of AI and for content generation, accuracy, and enhancement.
  • Overhaul the tooling and architecture of our documentation for content sharing and reuse, discoverability, and positioning for use in retrieval-augmented generation (RAG).
  • Partner with Cisco’s various business units to ensure that our internal and external content is well-aligned and best positioned for success.
  • Define and regularly review governance plans.
  • Audit documentation programs and other engagements to provide feedback and validate desired business outcomes and success metrics.

  • Report on documentation data and trends to assess the effectiveness of the program and identify areas for improvement.
  • Analyze business metrics to identify documentation needs and opportunities.
  • Participate in team and departmental Objective and Key Result (OKR) and Quarterly Business Review (QBR) cycles.

Professional Development (20%)

We encourage and value professional development. Plan and use up to 20% of your time to develop yourself, which could look like:

  • Staying well-versed in the latest theory and standard methodologies in documentation and technical writing, use of AI and RAG to enhance documentation, acquiring industry certifications, attending meetups, webinars, and conferences.
  • Developing knowledge of networking concepts and learning more about Cisco products.
  • Finding the intersection between your personal development interests and our business needs to identify side initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in building knowledge management systems and strategies.

1.5% of incentive target for each 1% of attainment between 50% and 75%;
