Group Operations are the transaction champions of Enterprise Services — working to ensure the production, validation and fulfilment of all consumer and commercial financial transactions and trades on behalf of the Group.
Enterprise Services (ES) is responsible for the world leading application of technology and operations across every aspect of CommBank, from innovative product platforms for our customers to essential tools within our business. We also use technology to drive efficient and timely processing, an essential component of great customer service.

As an Engineering Manager you’ll lead teams of Engineers, cultivating a growth mindset, and supporting creative and innovative ways of working. You’ll drive engineering global best practice and standards, technical roadmaps and reduction in technical debt, coach and support engineers, establish peer-to-peer learning / mentoring and assure the creation of engineering outcomes.
Roles & Responsibilities
We are looking for an engineering manager to define and model what great looks like and ensure we solve problems with the customer at the heart of everything we tackle. Our strategic direction is to drive our transition to the cloud, and to address key business requirements, cost, and risk whilst driving the use of automation, AI, machine learning, data intelligence and data augmentation to improve Operational processes across the Group.
You will lead and influence multiple teams, assist with the wider content services strategy and love empowering engineers to turn up every day wanting to be better than yesterday. You will encourage robust technical conversation and want to build the skill sets of others.

Build, lead, and inspire an engaged team of Software Engineers across various levels.

Enhance software engineering chapter, foster security mindset and embed well-architected principles as a part of SDLC.

Drive implementing best practices to continuously improve system stability, and observability.

Offer strong technical leadership and work in partnership with product owners to develop and engineer high quality, robust and scalable solutions.

Have an understanding of across service management with the ability to supporting complex incidents and escalations.

Proactively collaborates with others to resolve service issues and reduce operational activities by automating repetitive tasks.

Can empower the team to manage their work appropriately, promote a culture of continuous learning and ensure reward for effort.

Are able to provide effective coaching to engineers and establish mechanisms for peer-to-peer learning and mentoring.

Lead by example in practicing Agile principles, fostering a culture of collaboration and iterative improvement to achieve business goals.
Essential Skills

15 + of experience in Java/.Net
-
Expert in SDLC and ITIL with broader experience around architecture, design, implementation, deployment, Integration, and technology transformations is essential.

Experience across Software and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE).

Coding languages: i.e. JavaScript, TypeScript, C#, Java or .NET.

Containerisation: Kubernetes EKS – AKS, Docker, Microservices, etc.

DevSecOps: CI/CD tools (i.e. GitHub Action, TeamCity, Sonarqube, Artifactory, Octopus).
-
AWS or Microsoft Azure, with the ability to configurate.

DevSecOps: Security scanning tools – Snyk, Sysdig are highly regarded.

Monitoring Tools: Splunk, Prometheus, Grafana, etc...

Proficient in using Jira to facilitate sprint planning, backlog grooming, and Agile ceremonies.
Education Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree/master’s degree in engineering in Computer Science/Information Technology
