Role Overview:
As a C&I Engineer within Zeeco’s Global Burner Systems division, you will play a key role in the design, configuration, and implementation of control and instrumentation systems for industrial burners used in fired heaters, boilers, HRSGs, and WHRB applications.
This position involves working on complex FEED and Detailed Engineering projects, collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams across global offices, and engaging directly with advanced combustion control systems. Your expertise in PLC programming, control narratives, hazardous area instrumentation, burner management, and safety systems will ensure safe, compliant, and reliable operation of combustion equipment across major global installations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform hands-on design and detailed engineering of industrial burners, including oil, gas, combination, duct burners, and radiant wall burners.
- Apply strong understanding of boiler operations and associated equipment for WHRB, HRSG, and fired heater systems.
- Collaborate with Process, Mechanical, Electrical, and global engineering teams to integrate C&I systems with complete plant operations.
- Prepare engineering documentation including Instrument Index, specifications, datasheets, loop diagrams, logic diagrams, wiring diagrams, hook-up drawings, cable schedules, JB/Panel drawings, and IOM manuals.
- Develop P&IDs, Cause & Effect Diagrams, and detailed control narratives for burner management and combustion control systems.
- Perform sizing and selection of Ex-proof and Intrinsically Safe instruments suitable for hazardous areas.
- Participate in KOM, FAT, 3D Model Reviews, HAZOP, HAZID, SIL studies, and design review meetings with clients and stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with international design codes and standards such as API, NFPA, ISA, IEC, and other statutory requirements.
- Prepare specifications and datasheets for field instruments including control valves, pressure regulators, transmitters, analyzers, shutoff valves, dampers, flame scanners, and CEMS systems.
- Lead the C&I engineering scope for projects, including scheduling, progress monitoring, and resource coordination.
- Coordinate multi-office project execution with Zeeco’s global engineering teams across various time zones.
- Work with vendors for technical clarifications, procurement support, and review/approval of vendor engineering documents.
- Conduct and review FAT/SAT for PLC systems, control panels, and instrumentation packages.
- Support commissioning teams during loop checking, tuning, system integration, and burner start-up activities.
- Assist in Performance Guarantee Test Runs (PGTR) to validate contractual and performance requirements.
- Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and training to junior engineers and project team members.
- Troubleshoot complex combustion control and instrumentation issues and provide subject matter expertise.
- Participate in virtual meetings across global time zones for engineering coordination and project reviews.
- Travel as needed for site visits, FATs, client meetings, technical reviews, and start-up assistance.
Required Experience:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Instrumentation
- 5–10 years of industry experience
- Background in Oil & Gas, Petrochemicals, Refineries, Fired Heaters, Boilers, or Process Equipment (preferred)
- Strong exposure to international codes & standards (API, NFPA, IEC, ISA, ATEX, etc.)
- Hands-on experience with global project execution in multi-office environments
This role offers an exceptional opportunity to work on high-value global combustion projects, contributing to the design of advanced burner systems used across world-class refineries, petrochemical plants, and energy facilities. At Zeeco, you will collaborate with international engineering teams, tackle complex FEED and Detailed Engineering challenges, and help shape the future of safe and efficient combustion technologies. If you thrive in a dynamic engineering environment and are eager to elevate your career with a global technology leader, we welcome you to join our team!
