A BDR (Business Development Representative) is responsible for generating and qualifying new business opportunities.

Their core focus is on outbound prospecting, early-stage sales engagement, and building a healthy pipeline for Account Executives (AEs).

Key Responsibilities of a BDR

1. Prospecting & Outreach

  • Identify potential customers through research, tools, and market data. Build Daily TAL of 10 accounts
  • Conduct cold calls, cold emails, and social outreach (e.g., LinkedIn). Conduct 10-20 daily calls
  • Personalize messaging to engage prospects effectively. Get to 10 weekly meetings.

2. Lead Qualification

  • Hold initial conversations to understand a prospect’s needs, challenges, and fit.
  • Use qualification frameworks (e.g., BANT, MEDDIC, ICP criteria).
  • Determine whether leads should advance to AEs. Handover 10 weekly meetings to AE.

3. Pipeline Generation

  • Create a consistent pipeline of qualified opportunities for the sales team.
  • Track all prospect interactions in a Salesforce

4. Collaboration with Sales & Marketing

  • Schedule meetings or demos for Account Executives.
  • Provide feedback to marketing on what messaging resonates.
  • Align with sales on target accounts and outbound strategies.

5. Follow-Up & Nurturing

  • Maintain communication with prospects who aren’t immediately ready to buy.
  • Send relevant content and reminders to keep leads warm.

6. Reporting & Performance Tracking

  • Maintain accurate activity logs.
  • Report on KPIs: calls made, emails sent, meetings booked, opportunities created.

7. Continuous Learning

  • Stay informed about the product, competitors, and industry trends to improve outreach.
  • Test new messaging, channels, and cadences to optimize performance.
