Job Title: Business Controls Unit – Treasury BCU, AVP

Location: Mumbai, India

Role Description

  • The Business Controls Unit (BCU) has the responsibility of executing various 1st and 2nd line controls along with providing oversight to all aspects of the department’s Operational Risk (OR) control frameworks, supervision controls, and supporting the broader Treasury department.
  • With its 1st line controls roles, the team facilitates the operating and ongoing enhancement of the Bank’s trading controls within Treasury. In addition, the team is also responsible for several aspects of Treasury’s Benchmark Control Framework and ongoing compliance with non-prudential Regulation.
  • It partners with the Divisional Control Officer (DCO) and Global COO for Treasury along with all other 2nd LoD functions such as Compliance, AFC, Technology, Risk, Finance etc
  • This role presents a unique opportunity to have responsibility for global deliverables across the Risk and Control frameworks for this 1LoD Business.

Your key responsibilities

This role is to provide coverage across the global Treasury control responsibilities.

  • As a member of the BCU team, develop and run Treasury’s Controls Framework covering control execution and reported metrics, for centrally managed controls. This includes design and implementation tasks covering a broad range of controls topics both 1st and 2nd line. The role would also require to lead control topics at governance fora, engagement with other functions and senior management.
  • Produce control metric MI and associated breach explains for senior management and other Treasury teams
  • Liaise with relevant stakeholders within Treasury 1LoD and various related support functions to support the operation and enhancement of the department’s control frameworks
  • Partnership with other Divisional DCO & BM functions to ensure Bank-wide consistency of the implemented controls, and participate in the ongoing improvement of the Bank’s control  environment
  • Key focus on various trading controls and related back-end infrastructure to support Treasury 1st line teams
  • Leveraging control metrics to identify deficiencies requiring control reviews and assurance process
  • Identify and resolve gaps with various trading systems, books reference data, HR data and other support systems

Your skills and experience

  • Knowledge / experience of typical Front Office trading desk activity, and the associated control frameworks (as practitioner or in a desk-facing support function)
  • Understanding of the practical application of risk identification, measurement and control principles
  • Inherent skills to detect issues with Audit mindset (Good to have)
  • Build and manage engagements with 1st LoD, 2nd LoD, and 3rd LoD 
  • Ability to work independently, as well as in a team setting 
  • Experience working under pressure and to tight deadlines with the ability to prioritise projects and workload 
  • Excellent written, interpersonal and communication skills; able to deal with senior management, cross division and cross cultural teams
  • A high degree of personal initiative, attention to detail and an ability to work under time pressure.
