Role Purpose

The Scrum Business Systems Analyst Specialist is a hands-on individual contributor who combines strong business and systems analysis capability with practical Scrum delivery responsibilities. The role independently drives initiatives from discovery through implementation, translating business needs into clear, testable requirements while enabling an effective Agile delivery rhythm across business, product, engineering, data, and quality assurance teams.

The role serves as the functional point of contact for assigned projects and is expected to manage priorities, dependencies, risks, stakeholder alignment, requirements traceability, testing, implementation readiness, and post-release follow-up with limited day-to-day supervision.

ROLE OUTCOME  •  Well-defined requirements  •  Predictable sprint delivery  •  Clear stakeholder decisions  •  Business-ready solutions

Key Responsibilities - Business & Systems Analysis

·    Independently lead discovery and requirement workshops with business stakeholders, subject matter experts, product owners, developers, architects, data teams, and quality assurance teams.

·    Understand business problems, objectives, processes, data needs, and user outcomes; translate them into well-structured functional and non-functional requirements.

·    Create and maintain business requirement documents, functional specifications, process flows, data flows, user stories, use cases, acceptance criteria, decision logs, and requirements traceability.

·    Break down complex requirements into clear, prioritized, sprint-ready user stories that are understandable to both business and technical teams.

·    Perform impact, dependency, feasibility, gap, and data analysis for new capabilities, enhancements, defects, and change requests.

·    Lead requirement walkthroughs and clarify functional questions throughout design, development, testing, and implementation.

·    Use SQL and other analysis techniques, where required, to validate data, investigate issues, support requirements, and confirm expected outcomes.

·    Own functional quality for assigned initiatives, ensuring that delivered solutions remain aligned to approved business needs and acceptance criteria.

·    Plan and support system testing, business validation, and user acceptance testing, including test scenarios, test data, defect triage, evidence, sign-off, and deployment of readiness.

·    Maintain solution documentation and support-controlled transition into production, user communication, training, change management, and post-release validation.

Key Responsibilities - Scrum & Agile Delivery

·    Partner with the Product Owner and delivery team to maintain a healthy, prioritized, and sufficiently refined product backlog.

·    Facilitate or support Scrum events as needed, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.

·    Prepare stories for refinement by confirming business value, scope, dependencies, assumptions, acceptance criteria, and readiness before commitment.

·    Help the team establish a realistic sprint goal and maintain shared understanding of committed outcomes.

·    Track story progress, decisions, blockers, dependencies, risks, and actions; proactively coordinate resolution and escalate matters that may affect delivery.

·    Protect requirement clarity during the sprint by managing questions and controlled changes without introducing avoidable disruption or scope ambiguity.

·    Coordinate business participation in sprint reviews and demonstrations, capture feedback, and convert agreed feedback into prioritized backlog items.

·    Use delivery measures and team feedback to identify opportunities to improve requirement quality, flow, predictability, and ways of working.

·    Promote Scrum principles of transparency, inspection, adaptation, accountability, and continuous improvement while remaining practical and outcome focused.

·    Where a dedicated Scrum Master is not assigned, provide day-to-day Scrum coordination for the project while continuing to own BSA responsibilities. This role supports team effectiveness and does not replace people management responsibilities.

Independent Project Ownership

·    Take end-to-end functional ownership of small to medium initiatives, or a clearly defined workstream within a larger programme, with limited supervision.

·    Build and maintain a delivery view covering scope, milestones, backlog readiness, dependencies, risks, decisions, testing, stakeholder actions, and implementation readiness.

·    Coordinate across globally distributed and matrixed teams, ensuring that the right stakeholders are engaged at the right stage.

·    Identify ambiguity early, present options and recommendations, drive timely decisions, and document agreed outcomes.

·    Balance business value, user needs, data availability, technical feasibility, quality, and delivery timelines when recommending an approach.

·    Provide concise, fact-based status updates to project leadership and stakeholders, including progress, risks, decisions required, and proposed next steps.

·    Contribute reusable templates, standards, frameworks, and lessons learned to strengthen Business Analysis and Agile delivery practices.

Required Qualifications & Experience

·    Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.

·    8+ years of experience in business analysis, systems analysis, technology implementation, or a closely related role.

·    Demonstrated experience independently managing requirements and functional delivery across the full lifecycle, from discovery through production implementation.

·    Strong hands-on experience with Agile and Scrum delivery, including backlog refinement, user story development, acceptance criteria, sprint planning, reviews, retrospectives, and impediment or dependency tracking.

·    Experience working directly with business stakeholders, product owners, developers, architects, data teams, and quality assurance teams in a cross-functional environment.

·    Experience creating functional documentation, process and data flows, requirements traceability, test scenarios, and user acceptance testing plans.

·    Working knowledge of data concepts, system integrations, relational data structures, and data validation; practical SQL capability is strongly preferred.

·    Experience with common work management and documentation tools such as Azure DevOps or Jira and Confluence or equivalent platforms.

·    Experience working with globally distributed teams and managing multiple priorities in a complex, matrixed environment.

Core Skills & Behaviors

·    Strong analytical thinking, structured problem solving, attention to detail, and ability to connect business requirements with system behavior.

·    Ability to simplify complex concepts, ask effective questions, challenge constructively, and communicate recommendations clearly.

·    Confident workshop facilitation, stakeholder management, negotiation, presentation, and written communication skills.

·    Strong ownership mindset with the ability to work independently, organize work, follow through on commitments, and maintain momentum across teams.

·    Ability to manage changing priorities calmly, make progress despite ambiguity, and escalate with context and options rather than only highlighting problems.

·    Collaborative and service-oriented approach, with a focus on business value, delivery quality, shared accountability, and positive stakeholder outcomes.

Preferred

·    Professional Scrum Master, Certified ScrumMaster, Professional Scrum Product Owner, PMI-PBA, IIBA-CBAP/CCBA, or comparable certification.

·    Experience with enterprise platforms, data management, master data management, integrations, reporting, or business intelligence solutions.

·    Experience supporting organizational change, end-user training, production adoption, and continuous improvement.
