Role OverviewWe are looking for an experienced Backend Drupal Developer with a strong background in Headless CMS architecture and API integration to join our remote team on a 6-month contract basis. You will be responsible for building and maintaining scalable backend systems using Drupal 9/10, enabling high-performance API consumption for modern frontend applications.
Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, and maintain headless Drupal 9/10 backends tailored for API-first environments.
Expose content and entities via GraphQL, REST, and JSON:API for seamless frontend integration.
Build and manage content structures including content types, fields, paragraphs, taxonomies, and view modes.
Create custom modules and plugins to extend Drupal’s core functionalities based on business requirements.
Integrate and configure Elasticsearch for fast and scalable content search.
Ensure multilingual support, SEO optimization, and WCAG-compliant accessibility.
Apply caching, performance tuning, and security best practices to APIs and backend services.
Collaborate closely with frontend teams to ensure smooth data integration and support component-driven development.
Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, demos, and retrospectives.
Conduct peer code reviews and maintain high standards of code quality and documentation.
5+ years of backend development experience using Drupal, especially in headless/decoupled environments.
Expertise in GraphQL, REST, and JSON:API.
Proven experience in custom module development, Drupal theming, and site building.
Strong understanding of Drupal caching, performance tuning, and security best practices.
Experience with Elasticsearch integration.
Familiarity with Agile methodologies, Git, JIRA, and CI/CD pipelines.
Excellent problem-solving skills with a strong eye for detail.
Experience with Next.js or other modern frontend frameworks.
Hands-on knowledge of Drupal 10 upgrades and migration best practices.
Exposure to containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes).
Experience working on cloud platforms like AWS or Azure.
Understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG) and SEO optimization strategies.
