Shiny photovoltaic panels are popping up across India’s expansive desert farms and topping urban residences as its solar infrastructure hits record numbers. Thanks to government campaigns, including $3.2 billion worth of local incentives to onshore the supply chain, the country added 40 percent more solar power projects in 2022 compared to the previous year.
Currently, India generates 72 gigawatts of solar power, with plans to produce 280 gigawatts by 2030. And with up to 300 sunny days year round, experts estimate the country’s total potential capacity of 748 gigawatts — enough to power about 500 million houses solely on solar.
The following Mumbai-based solar companies are fueling the industry’s accelerated growth as India sets the pace to becoming the world’s second largest photovoltaic manufacturer.

5 Top Solar Companies in Mumbai
Borosil Renewables manufactures what the company claims to be the world’s thinnest solar glass product. With less material than the 3.2mm standard, Borosil’s 2mm, fully tempered solar glass absorbs less solar irradiance and outputs higher efficiencies of renewable energy in solar panels.
Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy provides engineering, procurement and construction services, as well as operations and maintenance, for solar-powered projects. Collectively, its portfolio holds a 16 gigawatt-peak of projects that span utility-scale solar, floating solar and energy storage solutions, including one of the world’s largest solar power plants located in Abu Dhabi. Founded in 1927, the company has grown to a 3,000-person workforce across 29 countries.
Jurchen Technology installs solar mounting systems and direct current cables for solar power plants. Headquartered in Germany, the company claims that its high-density, ground mount solutions can produce up to 225 percent more land yield versus conventional methods of trackers and fixed tilt systems. To date, Jurchen has completed over 500 solar projects in 35 countries.
SMA Solar Technology sells solar energy equipment for small house and commercial-grade photovoltaic systems. Its solar inverters come in all module types that support on and off-grid connections as well as hybrid and backup power supplies. Founded in 1981, the company employs 3,500 employees from 18 countries.
Headquartered in Mumbai, Avaada Group is an integrated greentech company building renewable energy projects. Its project portfolio spans solar module manufacturing, green hydrogen and ammonia, sustainable aviation fuel and electrolyser manufacturing. By 2030, the consortium plans to install 30 gigawatts of green energy with a $20 billion investment to improve the lives of an estimated one million residents.
