As Bollywood’s homebase and de facto financial capital of India, Mumbai is already on the map. Now, a burgeoning IT sector is giving India’s most populous city another accolade to add to the list.

Thanks to its proximity to a bustling business center — complete with office parks full of major multinational corporations — a deep talent pool and convenient global connectivity, new branches of well-established IT companies are moving into town.

Even more support has emerged from the public sector. New state-level initiatives aim to convert a developing economic zone, known as Navi Mumbai Integrated Industrial Township, into a destination IT and data hub.

Infosys is the third-largest IT services and consulting company in India that modernizes software systems across a number of industries. With a company size of about 300,000 employees in 50 countries, Infosys delivers agile enterprise DevOps, data-driven and AI-enhanced analytics, digital marketing, cybersecurity and digital marketing as well as integrations for SAP, Oracle, Salesforce and Microsoft Cloud. For the third consecutive year, Infosys has been named a global top employer for its people practices and reskilling efforts.  

 

IBM is an IT company that provides infrastructure, software and consulting services for clients undergoing digital transformation. Founded in 1911, IBM is one of the world’s oldest and largest tech companies, now employing more than 345,000 employees and raking in $60.5 billion in annual revenue. It’s best known for manufacturing computers, servers, storage systems and networking equipment, but also delivers cloud computing, data analytics, DevOps and AI solutions. And while some of the earlier machines IBM produced were punch card tabulators and floppy discs, it’s since moved onto quantum computing and digitized, AI-employees.

Accenture is a global professional services company that specializes in digital, cloud and security services. Of all the IT companies on this list, Accenture is the largest in company size, with 733,000 global employees serving more than 9,000 in 120 countries. It offers cloud, data and AI integrations in addition to application development, business strategy, automation, infrastructure and cybersecurity services. In 2023, Fortune recognized Accenture as the most-admired IT company in the world, and Great Place to Work called it a world’s best workplace.

 

Vodafone Idea is India’s third largest telecommunications provider. In addition to providing 223 million Indians with high-speed broadband and wireless mobile services and across 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G networks, the company also offers voice and SMS chats, pre- and post-paid packages with unlimited minutes and data, optional subscription and membership bundles as well as its own international roaming coverage. Tech Mahindra is an IT and consulting firm that integrates next-generation tech into a brand’s digital transformation. Fintech company Adyen provides businesses with payment software that helps streamline their financial processes with data-driven insights. Tata Consultancy Services is India’s largest IT company. With over 615,000 employees across 55 countries, the firm’s services span consulting, cloud computing, cognitive business operations, cybersecurity and data analytics. Founded in 1968, the company — now valued at $158 billion in market cap — started out servicing national banks and has since expanded across the e-governance, financial services, telecommunications, education and healthcare sectors.

 

Fintech company Enfusion provides investment management software to more than 600 investment managers. Its offerings include software, analytics, real-time data intelligence and back-office managed services. Headquartered in the United States, Enfusion maintains offices in both Mumbai and Bangalore.

 

Cogoport is a digital freight logistics startup with a global trade platform that connects importers and exporters to streamline supply chain management. Founded in 2016, the transportation company has helped over 30,000 small-and-midsize enterprises move more than 478,000 containers across 192 countries. Clients use these services to verify customers, partners and users, or when onboarding merchants and conducting a risk assessment of lending decisions. Every month, IDfy processes about 25 million identities for more than 600 clients. 

 

ABB supplies robotics and automation systems for clients across industries from automotive to logistics. Focused on sustainability, ABB operates 177 manufacturing sites across the world and has achieved an overall 76 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions since 2019. The company is headquartered in Bangalore.

 

US-based Dynatrace is known for its AIOps platform, an analytics and automation tool powered by causal AI. The platform provides infrastructure observability, application observability and business analytics. Founded in 2005, Dynatrace has three locations in India: Mumbai, Bangalore and New Delhi.
